On Friday, November 15th, 2024, Mike Tyson and Jake Paul faced off for what was supposed to be an amazing fight. However, to much and little surprise, the fight was very underwhelming.

Lochlan - 1/5
I was really excited about this fight, but it was quite underwhelming. The event lasted four hours and featured four matches, three of which consisted of six two-minute rounds, while the final match had eight two-minute rounds. After so much anticipation and a previous delay earlier this year, we were finally going to witness the showdown. Jake Paul entered first, arriving in a car with his brother, Logan Paul. After seeing his introduction, I was eager to watch Mike Tyson deliver a knockout. When Mike Tyson walked into the ring with a cold stare, I was on the edge of my seat. As soon as the fight began, Mike used his aggressive approach, while Jake hung back, clearly terrified of Mike. The first round contained the most action from Mike throughout the entire fight. After that round, he threw fewer punches, and by the third round, he stopped throwing punches altogether and barely avoided Jake's attacks. To be honest, Jake wasn’t doing anything particularly impressive. The entire fight felt like a snoozefest, and I struggled to stay awake as the event dragged on longer than I had expected. It looked so scripted, with Mike failing to bring out the intensity that Jake seemed to provoke. There was so much promotion and hype on Instagram, with many people supporting Mike. Just hearing the name Mike Tyson instills fear, considering what he is capable of, while Jake Paul often makes you cringe and chuckle. I understand that Mike Tyson is older now, but it felt like he wasn't putting in much effort, probably just for the paycheck. He was estimated to make $20 million from this fight, yet I hoped he’d fight like he used to, rather than focus on the money. Overall, the event was disappointing and resulted in a boring night for anyone who bothered to stay up and watch it.
Drew - 2/5
I had been excited about this fight since it was announced, even after the delay. Even though Tyson was 58, I was still excited after seeing his training videos, not to mention that it was Mike Tyson. In my eyes, I couldn’t see Paul winning if you compared both of their training sessions. On Friday, I was excited to watch said fight. We had people over and were eagerly waiting for the beginning of the fight. However, we had to watch three fights before. The first two were kind of boring, but the third fight was very entertaining. When it was time for the Tyson fight I was so excited, and Netflix immediately buffered. Then they buffered even more throughout the fight. It was extremely annoying. Concerning the fight, it was still so disappointing. Tyson seemed like he was just fighting for a paycheck, which I respect if you are his age, but still, it’s “Iron Mike Tyson.” Second off, Jake Paul looks ridiculous fighting a 58-year-old Mike Tyson, out of his prime, and needing to be in a retirement home. Lastly, the whole fight was hard to watch. Tyson just played defense the whole time and threw minimal punches, and Jake Paul barely won. Although Paul admitted to “taking it easy” on Tyson, if you put the two in their prime against each other, Tyson wins via knockout in the first round. No doubt. It is embarrassing to see Paul fight Tyson comparing the two’s ages. But, it was cool to see Tyson fight live, not just watch YouTube highlights, even if he wasn’t at his best.
Robert - 1/5 I’ve been waiting for the fight and was disappointed when it was delayed the first time. When it finally happened it was such a letdown and seemed so scripted. There were many videos of Mike Tyson training and getting ready for the fight but it seemed like it was all for online attention. Jake Paul has earned his title by fighting people who don’t box and it seemed like he had this fight scripted. Despite Mike Tyson being 58 years of age I believed he could still at least hold his ground but he rarely threw any hits after the 2nd round. Once the match was over I felt like I had wasted my time because it was such a disappointment and didn’t live up to its name. ![]()

This iconic fight with Mike Tyson returning has been looming over everyone’s heads. Many were excited about it, but I always thought it was a little unfair for Jake Paul to enter the ring with a 58-year-old man. Even though Mike Tyson reigned in the early 90s, his prime has passed and he is not in the best shape. In my mind, Jake Paul was always going to win, and this fight would not be anything special. For the past 5 years, Jake Paul has chosen to fight people who are past their prime and way older than him. A good example of this is Tyron Woodley, a well-known UFC fighter. Tyron Woodley’s prime was from 2014 to 2016 where he won 6 of his 7 matches (ESPN). Jake fought him in 2021 and again in 2022 where Jake won both. Woodley was 39 years old while Jake was 24 years old when these fights happened. The only loss that Jake suffered was against Tommy Fury, an opponent who was in his age bracket and in better shape. I honestly think Tyson had no hopes of winning this fight, purely because of the age difference. If Jake were to fight a younger fighter like himself, he would have an actual challenge, like the Tommy Fury fight. This article was the first article in VIRIDIAN News history to have two groups crossing over for one article. Overall, the guys give the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight a 1.2 out of 5 ears.
