On September 6th Rebel Ridge was released on Netflix. Entertainment staff DaNija Thomas & Chloe Fankah give their opinions and thoughts about the movie. by Chloe Fankah and DaNija Thomas Summary: Rebel Ridge is a gripping Netflix movie that dives into the dark underbelly of injustice, police corruption, and societal issues. The film follows an ex-Marine who uncovers a web of deceit and violence while seeking justice. It’s a tense action-packed thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat as the protagonist fights against the Justice system to expose the truth. Chloe: Rebel Ridge was a really good movie… I just loved it! The action, the nonviolence was so fun to watch and just the fight for justice. This movie exposes corruption in governments, and racial discrimination is somewhat evident. In my opinion, I think Aaron Pierre played his role as Terry Richmond really well. The fact that Terry used to be in the Marines is a plus because his combat skills were very effective against all the police officers who harassed him, though he was just a passerby. They were not expecting him to have much skill. When it comes to police corruption, I think it was not closely looked at because it was a small town and the police chief was out to get Terry. But I’m glad he came across the court assistant Summer because she was of good help and had other things going on in her life pertaining to her daughters' custody. One person who got on my nerves, apart from the police officers, was Jessica, the female cop. I feel like she could have done a better job at helping Terry, but she was comfortable with the corruption and she didn’t want to fight it. In all, this movie was really good. It had me thinking, “What is the right way to fight corruption?”, because not only was the police department corrupt but the justice system of that town was also corrupt, and even if they went about it in a calm way, nothing would’ve changed. So there was really no right way to go about this injustice to get justice- this is why I support how Terry and Summer went about the whole situation, it was pretty satisfying to watch. DaNija: I didn’t really like it only because of how the movie first started. Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) was riding his bike on the way to the court house, so he could bail his cousin out of jail and then this police officer pulled him over. Basically it started off with racism, so that’s why I really didn’t like it like that. As time went by he started, let’s just say he was kind of threatening the police officers. I did like how close Terry and Summer got with each other. Helping each other through everything and having each other's back. I didn’t like how the government managed to drug Summer just for her to fail her drug test and then proceeded to keep her kids. That right there was wrong and I feel as if it was vice versa everyone would be mad. To me I feel like the message of this movie is to warn us about government corruption. Also how to fight the government if it comes down to it. It shows us the way this crazy world works and how to manage things. I think AnnaSophia Robb played her role very well. I used to be in love with her show “The Carrie Diaries”. I've never really seen her play in any action movies like this though, so it was very interesting to watch. Overall, even though we both had opposing views, Rebel Ridge is a must-watch movie because it highlights the corruption in justice systems which is sometimes overlooked. It also highlights racial discrimination and the extreme lengths that powerful forces can go to just to hide and cover up the truth. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
