With Homecoming week wrapped up, Walnut Grove High School was filled with energy and school spirit. To capture the excitement, several students shared their thoughts and experiences from this year’s first spirit week.

Monday: Twins Day
The week kicked off with Twins Day, where students and staff paired up in matching looks. Some duos dressed identically in jeans and T-shirts, while others went all out with costumes like Smurfs (Kylie Hutchins & Madison Whitley) or even Hamilton characters for a fun twist. When Lily-Kate (one of the Hamilton characters above) was asked what her favorite spirit week theme was she picked “celebrity day, [from] my junior year.” She really just loves spirit week so she would “dress up for practically anything.” The hallways were full of double-takes as students snapped pictures of the most creative pairs.
Tuesday: Generations Day
To elevate school spirit, students participated in Generation Day by dressing up as different ages. From babies to senior citizens, Generation’s Day gave everyone the chance to express themselves creatively and celebrate the diversity of the school community. Featuring wigs or grey-sprayed hair, canes and walkers, slippers and muumuus all for the old folks as well as onesies and slippers, pigtails and bows, and a cute squishy stuffed animal to top off those kid looks. Lily Peck was asked what day was her favorite and she said it was Generation Day “because [she] got to get rolled around in a walker by [her] friends. “ The same walker featured in her photo.
Wednesday: Pink Out
Wednesday brought out one of the most popular themes: Pink Out. Inspired by the iconic Mean Girls line, “On Wednesday we were pink,” the halls turned into a wave of bubblegum, neon, and hot pink outfits. Students embraced the theme with everything from simple shirts to full pink accessories, while teachers joined in for the fun, too. The spirit was less about competition and more about unity, as nearly everyone wore the color. Regan Gao ( as pictured above) mentioned that his favorite day of the week was “pink out because everyone dressed up as pink and everyone has pink in their closet.”
Thursday: Decades Day
Thursday took the halls back in time with Decades Day. Some students chose from the 70s and 80s, while most popped out of the 90s and early 2000s, bringing those eras back to life. Backwards hats, baggy pants, jerseys, and bandanas, as well as butterfly clips, studded belts, tights, and fluffy accessories. Chianne Trambauer is one of these examples loving decades day because “it was really fun and there was a lot of variety of things you could do that day.” With a special pair popping out as if coming straight from the disco with big afros, striped button-downs, bell-bottoms, and boots. The mix of decades made the school feel like a walking time capsule.
Friday: Color Wars
The week wrapped up with the crowd favorite: Color Wars. Each grade dressed in its assigned color, turning the halls into easy sections of white freshmen, green sophomores, black juniors, and all three mixed seniors. The classes' screaming competition at the pep rally that day showed just how much spirit WGHS has. Spirit Week proved once again that WGHS students know how to blend fun, creativity, and unity. Whether twinning with friends, repping a decade, or decking out in class colors, students embraced every theme. As the students looked forward to homecoming, the energy from Spirit Week carried well into the game and dance that weekend.
