A Day In The Life Of Mya: Balancing School And Sports

Mya Brown, a WGHS student athlete gives us a preview of her day-to-day life.

Being a student athlete isn’t easy, and Mya knows that better than anyone. Her days start as early as 4.30 am. She gets ready for school, catches the bus around 6.10 and spends the day in class. Once school ends, her schedule is filled with practices. She heads straight to flag football, and after that, she goes directly to gymnastics, where she trains for 4 hours.

By the time she gets home, it’s close to 10 p.m. She still has to eat dinner, shower, and finish homework, often staying up until 2 a.m. before finally getting some rest.

Balancing academics and athletics is tough, but Mya makes it work. She tries to get as much done in class as possible, then finishes what she can later. Even so, it’s not always easy. “Sometimes it gets stressful,” she admitted, especially when competitions and tests fall at the same time.

Despite the challenges, Mya has advice for other student-athletes: always put school first. “Do as much school as you can,” she said. “If you can’t finish it, don’t stress too much—just do what you can.”

Mya’s schedule is full, but her determination shows how committed she is both on the field and in the classroom.
