Miles Brown is a sophomore and an artist at Walnut Grove. He is creative and hardworking, per his classmates. “Miles just makes this class worth it.” Ares Elder (11) said, “I mean he’s just got the vibe, that swagger. He’s a very good artist, and he’s so creative.”
From a young age, Miles loved art. As children, most people, including Miles, just doodled whatever came to mind. One day, someone told Miles, “Hey, you’re good at this.” and he took it and ran. Miles gets inspiration from his life, he said, “Sometimes, [I get inspiration] from old films and music, but I mostly pull from my emotions and people who are and aren’t in my life.” Miles’s most recent piece is a beautiful depiction of an angel with wine poured down his back. Miles said that he got inspiration from his own life and his journey as a person: “My family is religious, and I’m finding my [way] to a religious path as well.” He explained, “When I was first discovering who I was, I got my parents to understand by telling them ‘God created me the same way he created grapes instead of wine… It’s all about creating something better out of what you have.’ … and helped me not justify, but feel better about who I am.” This metaphor will resonate with anyone who is going through the same struggles as Miles. Struggles like finding yourself, self-acceptance, and acceptance from peers and especially family members. Miles pulls inspiration from his heart and pours it out onto a canvas beautifully.
