Before going to see the movie, of course I had to stop at McDonald's and get their Minecraft Happy Meal. The box was much larger than a regular Happy Meal, and the toy was boxed up in an adorable treasure chest just like the ones in Minecraft. I ended up getting the Zombie Hamburglar Minecraft skin. The toy surprised me as it came with a card that you can scan to claim the skin in the mobile app!

After enjoying the Minecraft Meal, I went to the movie theater in Bethlehem with my boyfriend. The movie started off quickly, as they wanted to provide a backstory for Steve, but it felt rushed. In the first five minutes, I learned that he was a doorknob salesman who had grown tired of his basic and boring life. He wanted to embrace his creativity. One day, he wandered into a cave and discovered an Orb of Dominance and an Earth Crystal. He combined them both to create a portal to the “Overworld,” which is what we know as Minecraft. It seemed clear that the producers intentionally made the backstory brief, as the dialogue was fast-paced and the scene was quite short. I assume they wanted to avoid spending too much time on anything that wasn’t directly related to the main adventure.

After that, the movie introduces Garret the Garbage Man, who quickly became my favorite character because he made me laugh the most with his funny '80s outfits and his humor. Garret is desperate to find cash or valuable items he can sell because he's going broke and needs to save his shop. While digging through a storage bin, he finds two pieces needed to create a portal to Minecraft. Earlier, we saw that Steve intentionally had his dog hide these pieces because he was kidnapped by an evil zombie piglin who wanted to destroy the Overworld, and with the portal, she could achieve this.

Once the characters are dragged into the Overworld, the adventure begins and the storyline picks up. The movie humorously mentions that night falls every 20 minutes, which I recognized and found amusing. I also laughed when Steve admitted how surprising it was to get a juicy, perfectly cooked chicken simply by dropping a chicken into lava. This movie did a great job of showcasing Minecraft's unique game features.

This movie was a fantastic blend of humor and adventure. Casting Jack Black as Steve was a great choice. His comedy and creative spirit really enhanced the film. As someone who has been playing Minecraft since childhood, I found it nice to see my favorite game come to life on the big screen. The movie captured key elements, such as taming a dog and forming a bond with it, quickly building a basic "house" on the first night (it usually looks like a simple wall), and showcasing the freedom to use your creativity to build whatever you desire. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone. Whether you are a longtime fan of Minecraft or somebody who doesn’t even know what it is, it's a humorous movie that anyone would enjoy watching.
