Rainy days have always been the best days to chill and watch movies. So we asked multiple people, including WGHS students and teachers, to give their opinions and ratings on their favorite movies to watch on a rainy day. Here's what they had to say.
by Mackenzie Smith and Nyla Ferguson
Action- Captain America: Civil War (9/10), The Avengers (8.5/10)
Leocadio Sanchez, a junior, spoke passionately about his views. The movie he decided was the best for a rainy day was Captain America: Civil War. He said, “I enjoyed how the movie's plot was about, the Avengers should be a part of the government or not. I also just enjoyed the action scenes and the way Black Panther was being integrated into the MCU. I like that the movie shows how relationships should be tested in the future. Also, I’m Team Cap!” In all, he gave this movie a 9 out of 10.

Next, we spoke to Makenzie Malcom, who is also a junior. Her favorite movie to watch on a rainy day is The Avengers. “I enjoyed this movie because of the amount of fights it had in it,” she said. “At first, I wasn't interested, but then, towards the end of the movie, there was a plot twist, which made it interesting. So I give this movie 8.5 out of 10.”

Horror- The Conjuring (8.5/10)
Amaria Chadmon, a sophomore, had no hesitation when giving her opinion about her favorite movie. Her favorite genre is horror, and one of her favorite movies in this genre would be The Conjuring. “I like this movie because the plot continues to change, and it's always interesting. I also like that it is based on a true story, and I believe the actors did a great job at portraying their roles.” Overall, she gave this movie an 8.5 out of 10.

Romance- The Notebook (10/10)
Ziera Nicks was the last student we interviewed, also a junior, and her favorite go-to rainy day movie is The Notebook, which she rated a 10 out of 10. “I like the movie because of how romantic but sentimental it is at the same time,” she claimed. “The movie was bittersweet, and the way the movie ended… that was a tearjerker.”

Action-Adventure - Scarface (10/10) Guardians of the Galaxy (8-9/10)
Along with the students we interviewed, we also spoke to some of the staff. Mr. McGinty, an ELA teacher, gives us some insight into his favorite movie and genre. “My favorite film in the Action-Adventure genre is Scarface. I rate this film 10 out of 10 because it's a compelling story about a Cuban immigrant who rises to the top of the illegal narcotics industry.” Additionally, he calls the film, “...the most captivating piece of literature that I've ever witnessed.” Although this film is almost 50 years old, Mr. McGinty still deems Scarface “‘the most Influential film’ on hip-hop culture to date.”

Our final interview was with Mr. Mozley, who is also an ELA teacher here at WGHS. He shared his thoughts, saying, “I am not generally a fan of movies in the Marvel multiverse, at least most of the newer ones, mainly because they've made the connections among the films so convoluted and self-referential. However, I think the first Guardians of the Galaxy is hard to beat. It has action, drama, silliness, stunning visuals, and a great soundtrack. I would rate that an 8-9.”
