Game scores and expectations
The matchups last weekend were insane. The winners of the weekend were Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, and LSU. The Tennessee game against Kent State was a complete blow out. Tennessee came out on top with a 71-0 victory. The Vols came into the game with full confidence. Kent State were the underdogs going into the game and they performed just as people expected. Jackson Salain, WGHS football player, says, “They just played well as a team…Tennessee is a much better school [this season].” The Georgia Bulldogs went against the Kentucky Wildcats in Kentucky’s home stadium, Kroger Field. Georgia won with a score of 13-12. In this game, many students at Walnut Grove believed that Georgia was asleep. Emadd Howard, starting RB for WGHS, says, “I feel like Georgia thought they were going to come out and roll over Kentucky, but the Kentucky defense showed up, big time.” In this game Kentucky were the underdogs, but were able to have Georgia on the ropes. This game was a dog fight between the two teams and showed that Kentucky came to play. Last week, the Texas A&M Aggies and the Florida Gators played against each other. This game was a tough one and showed the abilities of both teams. The Aggies were the better team in the end, winning the game 20-33. Felix Menendez, WGHS football player, said, “I do feel like as a team that [the Gators] are not being managed right. They have a lot of potential, mainly in the D line.... Their quarterback [Graham Mertz] is getting a lot of hate, but I feel like he could be good because he's a good passer on the field.” Texas A&M stormed into The Swamp and walked away with their first SEC victory.
Another major game last week was the South Carolina Gamecocks against the LSU Tigers. This game was a complete dog fight and a good one to watch. The score came to 33-36 with LSU winning on a missed last-second field goal by the Gamecocks.
Both teams gave it their all. Jake Moss (11) liked the game and said, “[LSU and South Carolina] were doing okay during the game, but not as good as they should have…. [LSU] could’ve definitely worked on defense and gameplay, but they have really good athletes.” Week three of college football was amazing to watch. Week 4 has potential to be even better, with big games like Tennessee vs. Oklahoma in Oklahoma’s first game in the SEC and USC vs. Michigan in USC’s first BIG10 Game.
