Deadpool and Wolverine: Marvel’s Savior (SPOILER ALERT)

On July 26, 2024, Disney released Deadpool and Wolverine exclusively in theaters. Entertainments Robert Arizmendi and Lochlan Chastain give their review of the movie.

Over the summer, a ton of movies were released. On this long list of films, the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine movie came out. The film has grossed a whopping 1.148 billion dollars at the box office while only having a budget of 200 million dollars. Deadpool and Wolverine are already beloved by many fans and have been a welcome addition to the Deadpool trilogy. 

Recap
The movie itself features a brilliantly made plot. The movie starts with Deadpool breaking the fourth wall and discussing the addition of Deadpool to Disney Plus and the rights to Deadpool. He then opens up the grave of Logan from the end of the movie Logan. The Time Variance Authority from the Disney Plus series Loki shows up and initiates a fight. Deadpool flashes back and explains his life since the end of Deadpool 2. A guy named Paradox wants to end Deadpool’s timeline so he offers him a spot in the Sacred Timeline. Deadpool refuses and goes to find Wolverine due to paradox saying that Deadpool’s timeline is dying because the anchor being, a being that holds the timeline together, died at the end of Logan. Deadpool finally finds Wolverine but he is disgraced from his timeline due to his past. Luckily for Deadpool and the audience, this Wolverine dawns the iconic comic-book suit. After confronting Paradox, Paradox sends Deadpool and Wolverine into the void, a desert landscape full of all the things the TVA erased. This includes all of the characters from previous Marvel movies or canceled shows. Although Paradox seems like the villain, the true antagonist of the movie is Cassandra Nova, Professor X’s sister. The TVA banned her to the void due to her being so powerful. Cassandra Nova plans to destroy all timelines at the same time using a time ripper. Deadpool and Wolverine team up and fight to stop her. 

Review
This movie improved the multiverse craze that has plagued the entertainment industry over the last few years. It has been the first multiverse Marvel movie that was actually good and didn’t feature terrible writing nor a bad, unengaging story. The way it did this was due to its simplicity and its comedic atmosphere. Most multiverse movies take themselves too seriously which ends up ruining the fun of having a multiverse. I’m interested in seeing where Marvel goes from here, and we hope they leave the multiverse thing in the past. The movie in our opinion is the best out of all the Deadpool movies. The chemistry between Deadpool and Wolverine is a constant source of laughter. The jokes in this movie are ones that we will quote and share with each other for years to come. This movie is a must see and we hope that the DC Universe will take a lesson from this.

Overall, the movie is one of the best movies to come out this summer and has the potential to change the course of Marvel movies going forward.
