Nevaeh Patrick (Senior) has a positive opinion of the album, naming “SOMEBODY LOVES ME” as her favorite song of the project. She says, “It’s not really the lyrics, I just like the song. I feel the song and I like it.”
Speaking on the collaboration between PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake, she remarks, “I thought it was crazy but then you hear the music, [and] it makes sense. I asked one of my friends and she said it was like Drake featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR.” She added, “Drake was in every song and sounded the same. ” She went on to say that while the style of the album was consistent with the rest of PARTYNEXTDOOR’s discography, this is a bit different for Drake as he primarily sings as opposed to his usual style of rapping. Her review wasn’t without criticism, however. “...For the album to have so many songs, there were only about four that I would listen to again.” She also wishes she heard PARTY’s voice more compared to Drake’s, “...Maybe I’m a little biased.” Nevaeh closes her review with, “I liked it; it may have a positive effect [on Drake’s career] because we haven’t heard any new music since the beef [with Kendrick Lamar]. There’s definitely a few songs on there that I could see that could influence his career, but for the album as a whole, I feel like PARTYNEXTDOOR should have been on more of the songs.” Jordin Galvan (Sophomore) says she likes the upbeat tune of [the album]. She likes “NOKIA”, but her favorite is “DEEPER”, “because they have a different vibe than the rest of the album and NOKIA makes me want to get up.” Although she likes the tune and a few songs, she says she feels like it was pretty mediocre because his older albums just hit better. “I was happy they were gonna collab because PARTY and Drake usually make really good songs together,” she continued. She also said this album could have a positive and negative effect on his reputation, “people are just gonna be hating on him just to hate because Kendrick did what he did [at the Super Bowl], but other than that, Drake and PARTY did a good job.” ![]()
Lubis Montejo (Senior) says that “CN TOWER”, “GIMME A HUG” and “GREEDY” are some of his personal highlights in the album. Lubis says, “I feel like [this album’s] more about him expressing his feelings and not about rap.”
He continues saying when [Drake] first promoted it, “I was skeptical because their old songs are hit or miss” and realized that PARTY was more [of a] producer than an artist on the album. He then goes on to say “CN TOWER” and “NOKIA” are his favorite because he relates to “CN TOWER”, and “NOKIA” is more upbeat than the rest of the songs. Lubis finishes by rating this album a 10/10, “I like it and I love Drake.” Overall, these three students have a mostly positive review of this album. There is a mix of some criticism as well, but if you enjoy listening to Drake, give this album a listen. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
