The Varsity Girls Basketball team continues their four-game win streak to five with a win at Eastside High School on Friday, January 31st.
by Makayla Bryson and Lucas Bell
The game was on Eastside’s court during their senior night. The ball game started with Walnut Grove taking a lead and absolutely dominating the court. “We started out really good and then in the second quarter they came back and then we were tied at half time but then after that we took over,” Aniston Thompson claimed.
During the second quarter of the game Eastside was starting to make an incredible comeback, playing like it was their last. At halftime it was a tied game, and both teams were exhausted trying to keep up with one another. They knew they had to work together as a team to win this game so they knew what to do. “Our mental state was just trying to keep calm in all of the chaos since it was senior night. A lot of things were going on, and a lot of people didn’t believe in us to win, so we had to fight through it and stay calm, so we could push through during the game,” said Savannah Acree. Finally, when halftime was over, they knew they had to hit the ground running. Each team scored point by point trying to keep a lead. During the 4th quarter however, the Warriors had made a breakthrough. Eastside started to fall into a drought which created the Warriors leverage to take the lead and win the game at the very end with a score of 54-48. After the game, the girls knew the only reason why they won was because they worked together as a team. “We had to push each other throughout the whole game,” Alyssa Leonard said. Every player on the court played their best, but it can't be done without teamwork. Aniston Thompson said, “They were very scrappy, so I think they played worse than they did the first time we played them. It was still a close game until the end.” It was a great game last week with the girls winning. The girls have had a great season so far and have really been putting in the hard work. They have had some ups and downs but they learn to move past it. They have all learned from each game and have played whether it went well or not. They move past it and keep going to get better each time. Because of the girls ability to move past all of the hard times and focus on the good is how they have had such a great season. It hasn’t been easy but the girls have really learned to work together to be able to push through and make it all happen. ***UPDATE: Girls Basketball team begins Region Tournament play this weekend.
