Payton Scott is super happy about her first year of participating in FGE. She says FGE is “... a club for people who are thinking about being a future Georgia educator to go and explore different education programs and colleges... I mainly wanted to see the campus of each of the schools on the trip and how each of the school's programs work, but also explore other colleges to see what their educational programs are like.” Payton comments, “I learned that at some of the schools, they don’t have education programs that allow going abroad, like exploring other countries and teaching in other places, which is cool. Some also allow you to stay in Georgia or your local hometown.”
Skylar Ward's goals for the trip were, “…to see more of the campus, a tour of the college, and I wanted to see what things you do and what things you learn.” She added, “I've always wanted to go to a Georgia college and I wanted to see if it was where I wanted to go in the future.” Another student, Kimberly Marban-Casarrubias shares her general connections of what she thought about the FGE trip. She first says, “FGE is a club for future teachers and educators.” She tells us, “I mostly wanted to see the campus.” ![]()
Many of the FGE members share their experience of growing their knowledge, not only within a classroom, but in their everyday lives. Payton has gained a new perspective from being in FGE, “It helps me see what other teachers go through, helps me gain compassion about the things our teachers do every day. When we do our service activities and give back to the teachers, it shows we appreciate them.”
“FGE has taught me that I want to be an educator and it has taught me all the skills about it.” expressed by Skylar Ward, Skylar shares how being in this club has given her a way to, "... feel involved, and we[members] collaborate on everything, it's a super fun club, ” Payton Scott notes, “I chose to join FGE because it was already tied to the ECE pathway that I am in and I thought it was good for services and allowed me to see more colleges.” She mentions, “I did enjoy the trip, it was fun. I liked learning about the colleges. Exploring with my friends was very fun.” In all, Skylar, Kimberly, and Payton have realized a new goal in their future, each of the girls has recognized how much they enjoy teaching, and being in FGE has only grown their love for education. Payton mentions, “...[FGE] has affected my future life because it ties in with the ECE pathway and helps me be a future teacher. Both programs help me connect things in everyday life and give me more information about being an educator.” Kimberly mentions, “It influences what I wanna be in the future... I learned about college life and what requirements are needed for certain schools or programs.” In agreement, Skylar adds, “FGE has taught me that I want to be an educator and it has taught me all the skills about it.” Payton expresses the various benefits of the club, “Pros would be you get to meet once a month and make things for the teachers or the staff that shows our appreciation for them. You also go on field trips, make gift bags, design posters, and other fun service activities. One of the only cons is that it's in the morning, so getting there is no fun.” “Pros are that it's fun and you feel involved & the cons are that there is a lot of work but just show up to meetings if not you get really behind,” shares Skylar. Kimberly says, “Pros, going on trips and learning more about colleges. Cons, waking up in the morning for the meetings.” She notes, “I’m planning on doing FGE until next year because that's the requirement for a cord.” Kimberly lastly voices, “For other students, if you're thinking about being a teacher or something in education, I would join FGE. You learn more about different programs and colleges for careers in education.” Throughout all the members in FGE, each of them has enjoyed being involved with all the service activities, gaining new knowledge, and going on field trips to visit and gain more information for their futures. Overall, Skylar Ward, Payton Scott, and Kimberly Marban-Casarrubias agree this trip provided an enriching experience by offering valuable insight to hopefully continue their future in education.
