Walnut Grove High School's marketing class is taking on the challenge of creating a food truck, selling an array of treats, and showcasing a business. Each group spent time researching the ins and outs of entrepreneurship and learning about the food industry.

The marketing room is filled with a variety of skill labs and completing projects, like the latest project: the food truck challenge. The students were asked to create and design their own pop-up truck and bring in items that showcase what their truck is about. Many students grouped up and started researching the ins and outs of entrepreneurship and all the things that create a successful business.
Gracie Starrett, Addy Larson, and Charlie Kronemeyer teamed up to create their Mamma Mia-styled truck selling sweet treats like mini cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, sugar cookies, muffins, and coffee. This group realized the reality of what presentation means for a business. Gracie shared, “I think what made our truck stand out was our variety of different desserts we presented.” Addy added, “[This] project allowed me to experience real-life examples of how to present to customers.” Gracie has learned the depths of what creating a business means. She shared, “I am very interested in the possibility of going into real estate, and it's good to have some experience I could use later in life.”
Another group, Ella Wilkins and Jackson Lee, based their truck off the simplicity of cookies. Both of them created a presentation showcasing the details of their business, the menu, and the overall design of their truck. Ella and Jackson decided to sell three separate styles of cookies: oatmeal raisin, plain oatmeal, and a classic chocolate chip cookie. This truck was called “Cookies on Wheels” for the obvious reason of being a food truck, but it maintained the classic style of a chocolate chip cookie. Jackson and Ella spent most of their time designing the look of their truck, wanting to capture a simple yet eye-catching look.
One group whose work really stood out to the rest of the class consisted of Rhyder Beard, Mariella Spath, and Alexis Thomas. The main idea of their truck was a nacho fiesta, selling tasty cheese nachos with an array of toppings to choose from, like lettuce, salsa, jalapeños, and many more. The “Nacho Wagon” was a fan favorite in the second-block class; many students described the truck as “creative” and “tasty.”
Ms. Milligan’s marketing class has allowed students to receive hands-on experience, discovering the traits of business and learning real-life skills that can be applied within future careers. This project focused on the importance of planning and researching a business, creating a flexible menu, and being adaptable. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
