Freshmen Transition into WGHS with Big Expectations (Q&A)

Freshmen, Class of 2030, are happy with their transition into high school and hope to accomplish the goals they have planned for their WGHS experience.

Freshmen, Class of 2030, are happy with their transition into high school and hope to accomplish the goals they have planned for their WGHS experience.

Explain how your experience in high school is going.

• Nellie Taylor: "My experience in high school is going a lot better than I anticipated; it's a lot easier to make friends than it has been."
• Jaxon McCollum: "It's going pretty well; I'm loving how we have more freedom than in middle school."
• Timothy Pearson: "Pretty good. The classes are just long, but we have more freedom, so when we go to lunch, we get to walk with our friends."

How is high school different from middle school?

• Nellie Taylor: "In middle school, I feel like there was a lot more bullying and fewer interactions that you could kind of enjoy having, knowing people, while in high school, it's kind of, 'Oh, hey, how are you doing?'; you can kind of connect with anyone."
• Jaxon McCollum: "High school is way different from middle school because, well, it's bigger, and there is more freedom and stuff, and you meet more people than in middle school because there are many more grades."
• Timothy Pearson: "Chill teachers, no lockers, we get to keep our stuff, we get to eat in class, vending machines just about whenever we want, and I think that's about it."

How are you going to be involved?

• Nellie Taylor: "I am in FFA, and I plan to do maybe tennis."
• Jaxon McCollum: "I'll be involved in school right now because I'm a DECA member, and I'm also going to be playing basketball."
• Timothy Pearson: "Sports like basketball, football, and track, and then there are clubs like DECA and FCA."

What are your goals for high school?

• Nellie Taylor: "To do well at nationals for FFA and graduate."
• Jaxon McCollum: "My goals for high school are—I don't really know—just being the best version of myself I can be and excelling in what I want to do."
• Timothy Pearson: "Get my diploma."

What classes do you want to take?

• Nellie Taylor: "Mainly just agriculture and maybe some dual enrollment at some point."
• Jaxon McCollum: "Marketing and business classes, and also math, I guess."
• Timothy Pearson: "Marketing, Intro to Business, any business classes, really."

What are you looking forward to most this school year?

• Nellie Taylor: "I look forward to getting the opportunity to go on trips."
• Jaxon McCollum: "I'm looking forward to the basketball games."
• Timothy Pearson: "Having fun and not getting into as much trouble as in other years."
