After injuries forced her to stop playing soccer, student-athlete Kinsley Sprague found a new passion in golf and is now working hard to reach her goals.

Kinsley Sprague (10), a student-athlete at WGHS, has shown determination and resilience after shifting from one sport to another. “I had two ACL surgeries, so I had to stop playing soccer,” Kinsley said. “Then I decided that I wanted to play golf because it was non-contact and I really liked it, and it’s a good environment.”

Although the transition was not easy at first, Kinsley quickly began to grow in the sport and discover a new love for a different game. Since joining the golf team, Kinsley has enjoyed both the sport and the supportive atmosphere around it. Practices are focused on improving skills, but they are also a place where the teammates can encourage each other and have fun at the same time. “We always listen to music, and then we used to just laugh and have fun,” she added.
Like many athletes, Kinsley Sprague learned the importance of staying focused and remaining positive during practices and matches. She tries hard to stay calm and not let frustration affect her performance. “Probably not getting frustrated,” she said while describing how she stays calm.
To stay focused during matches, Kinsley depends on her positive mindset and the support of teammates. “Just being around the right people and not getting in my head about stuff,” she explained. Having teammates who support and motivate each other has made her experiences even better.

At first, joining a new sport was challenging. Kinsley said she felt like an outsider when she first joined the golf team, but her teammates helped her feel welcomed. “The challenges I face are being an outsider when I came into golf… but now that I’m in it, they’re the best people ever,” she exclaimed.

Overall, Kinsley Sprague shows that even if something you love doesn’t go as planned, there are still many opportunities to follow. She continues to work hard every day to become a better athlete and student at WGHS.
