Manuel Medina-Balderas shared his view on the voting process, “ It was really surprising since you know there's like 7,000 kids in this school... and you know I was one of them, and it's a great honor.” Bryson Horn felt shocked when his name was announced. On the other hand, Laurynn Roman was confident in her peers to gain votes and win a spot in the running, via the voting process, Roman expresses, "My friends encouraged me to go and vote; I also campaigned with my sister.” Multiple students explain why they chose to run for court this year. Maggie Ezzell commented, "Last year my friends voted me on the homecoming court, and it was such a fun experience that I wanted to run this year! To me, it is a way to spread school spirit and the love and pride I have for my school and classmates.” Aspen Bowmen had a different perspective on why she decided to run for court, "It creates a positive and uplifting environment for kids who may be nervous or scared to do it themselves. It shows that other people in their grade aren't afraid...” The presence of the homecoming court positively influences students and the school environment by fostering a sense of community and school spirit. The tradition encourages students to engage in school activities, to dress for spirit week, and to promote unity and camaraderie among peers. Furthermore, it provides a platform for student leaders to be recognized for their positive behavior and school values. The excitement and entertainment generated by the homecoming court can enhance a more vibrant and supportive school culture. Here at Walnut Grove, these students are competing to win the crown.
