Pop star singer The Weeknd released his sixth album Hurry Up Tomorrow on January 31, 2025, and debuted at no.1 on the Billboard charts. Winner of four Grammy awards, The Weeknd releases his most spiritual album yet. The album contains twenty-two songs about wanting to give up, hoping God will forgive him someday, and heartbreak. Hurry Up Tomorrow reflects change within himself and it has been rumored that he wants to continue his career as Abel Tesfaye (his real name). The album was said to be a big finale for the Weeknd as he said in an interview in 2023, “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as the Weeknd. I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as the Weeknd. But I still want to kill the Weeknd.” I completely agree that this is what the album felt like when listening to the songs. It’s like he feels like he has no hope for himself and neither does God, resulting in a helpless feeling where he just has to kill off “The Weeknd” and start his life as Abel to be forgiven and cleansed. I liked the album because I love his voice, and he uses deep and meaningful lyrics. The ones that are very upbeat and more of a rap genre are also enjoyable to listen to.
The Weeknd includes stories about specific moments in his life that haunt him. His short passage between the song “I Can’t Sing” reminds me of 3 years ago when he lost his voice during one of his concerts for his tour. It affected him greatly as he felt like he let down his fans. My favorite songs on the album are Timeless (Ft Payboi Carti) and Cry For Me. Timeless is very popular right now and has a great beat. The lyrics that are said however show a deeper meaning that most people might ignore. Emily Sanaza a junior at WGHS shares her favorite song, “I like The Abyss it’s so good, I've always been a fan and he didn’t disappoint.” He talks about how fame is meaningless and it only makes him a worse person. This album is really good but has a more deeper and self-aware take this time. It makes me feel worried for The Weeknd as it sounds like this might truly be the last album we get from him if he doesn’t mentally improve. I love this album, it takes longer to understand and get used to because of how heartfelt and lyrical it is. The upbeat songs are going to be his most popular ones from the album. Brenna Brantley (11) is a huge fan of the Weeknd, “My favorite song off the album is 'Baptized in Fear', it was something that he had never done before. I would want to get tickets for his concert; it would be worth it.” However, this won’t be the last thing we ever hear from The Weeknd as he is releasing a movie for the album soon which fully explains the album and includes big stars like himself, Jenna Ortega, Berry Keoghan, and Charli D’Amelio. Will The Weeknd’s new album and movie be a goodbye letter or a new start to his career? The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
