Jump Up, Super Star! : WGHS Student Shares Positive Thoughts on Super Mario Galaxy Movie

After the success of Illumination’s 2023 film adaptation of the Super Mario Bros. franchise from Nintendo, a sequel was recently released on April 1, 2026, detailing Mario’s cosmic journey into the galaxy to rescue a princess not-so-peachy from Bowser’s son.

​In the months leading up to its release, Nintendo and the Illumination movie studios finally released the highly-anticipated Super Mario Galaxy Movie, an in-universe film twist on the popular game by the same name. Dariah Bradshaw (11) shared with VIRIDIAN her positive outlook on the movie. “My reaction was ‘Ooo, Super Mario!’” she says. “I was pretty excited about it, because I love everything about Nintendo…”

Despite the excitement, Dariah did mention her surprise at the approach the film took. “I can’t really remember how the first one ended, but I did really enjoy it… I did think the sequel was because [a] remake of the Super Mario Galaxy video game came out on Nintendo Switch… I was a bit shocked to see that it was an actual movie and not just a short film.” With this, Dariah shared her excitement for the addition of one of her favorite Nintendo characters she would see in the movie. “I did only see the trailer, but I saw that Yoshi is in the new movie… I love Yoshi, he’s like my little baby that I will always be happy with!”

With this positivity, and the numbers from the box office, students like Dariah can certainly expect a stellar time traveling the galaxy with Mario and Co. from this latest sensation in the video game movie world. So, jump up, Super Stars, and stay tuned to blast off!
