Kylie Hutchins is a senior female tennis player for the Walnut Grove High School team. She has been playing tennis since her freshman year, though she started playing at a different school. When it comes to the environment on the team, Kylie stated, “It’s very good. We’re all friends and we have a very good time.” Her favorite part about playing tennis is “to play doubles with [Aubree Smith].”

In order to balance her schoolwork, Kylie says, “Honestly, I just do my work on the bus. Like, my school work, I just do it on the bus on our way to our matches and stuff.” She was inspired to start playing tennis by her coach at her other school. “She wanted me to play, so I just did.” Kylie shares some advice she has for any underclassmen who wish to start playing, “That you could actually pick it up pretty quick, so if you want to do it, you should just go for it.”

Jack King is a sophomore attending Walnut Grove High School. He has been playing tennis since 8th grade. He says the environment surrounding the tennis team is “really nice.” He states, “We all support each other and we try to uplift each other as much as we can.”

Considered a veteran, he thinks underclassmen should “make sure you get your forehand on” and “make sure you can hit it normally before you can hit it, like, slice.”

According to Jack, tennis can be fairly difficult. He claims, “You need a lot of technique for it.” However, Kylie thinks it just takes time, “...Once you get the hang of it... you could actually pick it up pretty quick. So, if you want to do [tennis], you should just go for it.”
