WGHS Decides: Lebron or MJ?

The debate over Michael Jordan versus Lebron James has been ongoing for the past 10-15 years. Both players have been influential in the game of basketball.

The debate over Michael Jordan versus Lebron James has been ongoing for the past 10-15 years. Both players have been influential in the game of basketball. 

Justin:
I grew up watching Lebron play for Cleveland, Miami, and now LA. But I mainly tuned into his years in Miami, when he won the MVP in 2012 and 2013. Lebron also won a Championship in 2012 and 2013. He has been so inspirational for me in my down years, and even for basketball itself. Lebron got me into basketball and has been my icon.

AJ:
For me, I feel like Michael Jordan is a bigger figure in the world of basketball. When I was growing up, I remember MJ being the player I would see when thinking about basketball. Also, back in his prime, Jordan was an amazing player with the Bulls. He averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.3 steals (ESPN). He also won the Rookie of the Year award, Defensive Player award, six NBA championships, and many more awards. This is why I feel like, for me, MJ is my icon figure in basketball.

What does Walnut Grove think?
In an interview conducted, 25 students were selected at random and asked “MJ or Lebron?”

The data shows that 17 students selected Michael Jordan and 8 students selected Lebron James. That is a 68% chunk in favor of Jordan. 

The Lebron James vs. Michael Jordan debate will go on for years to come and maybe some new players will open a new debate soon. For now, the debate will stay as “MJ vs. Lebron.”
