When that final school bell rings, students trade their tight schedules for a mix of relaxation and a touch of adventure. While our teachers plan to sit back and recharge, many students are looking forward to relaxing, traveling, and staying busy.

Students are eagerly waiting for that last day of school, finally putting away the books and pursuing their well-earned relaxation season. Payton Scott plans to keep busy with cheer. “I have lots of cheer and work,” she explains. “I’m looking forward to going to a mini cheer camp. I love it because I get to hang out with my friends.” Payton also plans on traveling during her break, visiting Ormond Beach near Daytona Beach for the first week of break, then potentially taking another road trip toward the end of July with her family and friends.

Other students, like Jaxon Folds, plan on spending their break doing “a lot of football and going to the lake.” Along with sports, he is also looking forward to riding jet skis and making the most of his summer outdoors. When describing his ideal summer, Jaxon says it would be “probably going to the pool or hanging out with friends.” He also has goals for the summer, explaining, “I’m trying to get better and start a rotation for football.”

Another student, Silas, is a sophomore at WGHS whose summer plans seem to be full of fun, helping others, and making new friendships. This summer, Silas will be going to a summer camp. “From the first week of June to the second-to-last week of July, I will be working at a summer camp in Louisiana,” Silas shared. One thing Silas is looking forward to is the big event: Diabetic Week at the end of the month! Silas says that at this event, he gets to help and take care of kids who have diabetes. Silas also mentions his goals for this summer: “Probably to get an award for best camp counselor at the camp.” Silas shares that being at summer camp is his ideal summer experience, describing it as “an amazing experience.”

For the graduating seniors, this summer brings a bittersweet feeling; this is the final threshold between the comfort of WGHS and what is next to come for each of them. Ady Mills plans on spending her last summer as a Warrior on a cruise, then visiting New York City with her loved ones. She expresses, “One thing I’m really looking forward to over break is going on my cruise and visiting New York because I’ve always wanted to experience new places and make memories with my friends and family before everyone goes their separate ways after graduation.” For the Class of 2026, these months are a final hurrah—a time to soak everything in before the final transition next fall.

Walnut Grove students are aiming for a balance of rest and relaxation before returning refreshed to Walnut Grove High School in the fall. Whether focusing on personal goals, traveling, or catching up on sleep, the key to a successful summer break is to have fun with the people around you.
