We asked a fellow fan at WGHS for their favorite Mac Miller album. Avery Deeter (10th) said, “My favorite album is probably Circles.” Circles is an album that was released on January 17, 2020. Mac worked on it before his passing, and the producer, John Brion, finished and released it with the family’s blessing. Top songs from the album are “Good News” and “Blue World.”
Another listener, Ashley Fernandez (10th), told us the song most relatable to her was “Come Back to Earth.” She explained, “It resembles him coming back and working on himself. He inspired me to better myself, too.” “Come Back to Earth” was released on August 3, 2018, on his album Swimming. It was the first song of the album and really set the tone for self-care and working to better yourself. Someone else in Mac Miller's audience, Sadie Salveson (10th), explained that his lyrics are "emotional and motivational." He was very popular and known for being encouraging to his listeners. Sadie also said, "I feel like he's gone through a lot of things that others go through, so he definitely helped me push through." This goes to show that he had a big impact on others and their mindsets. Mac Miller passed away at the age of 26 from an accidental drug overdose. Mac was from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After his debut mixtape K.I.D.S., he moved to LA to get a bigger experience in the music industry. He was always comfortable writing about addiction and mental illness; that is why people really looked up to him and enjoyed his music—it was relatable. During his time in LA, he signed with Warner Brothers for his albums GO:OD AM, The Divine Feminine, and Swimming. Also during his time in LA, he was in a public relationship with singer-songwriter Ariana Grande. They produced "The Way," which was a part of Grande's debut album Yours Truly. Later, he released a song with Ariana called “My Favorite Part” on his album The Divine Feminine. They sadly split a couple of months before Mac's death. Even years after his passing, Mac Miller's music continues to live on in the hearts of his fans. Through honest lyrics and raw emotion, his music helped many people feel understood, comforted, and less alone during some of the hardest moments of their lives.
