This past Saturday, on September 28th, The Grove’s Marching Band took on rivals from all over the region in their first competition of the 2024 season at the Oconee Classic Competition. Students exceeded in their class and in the competition as a whole. Ranking all superiors, and placing 2nd overall in competition, the Marching Warriors are excited for all this season will bring.

Whether rookie or veteran, one thing everyone had in common was the amazing feeling that was taken off the field after knowing the scores of the competition. “It was the most amazing, exuberant feeling that I have experienced when in Marching Band,” Libby Lingerfelt (12) shares. Holden Crescionie (11) shares that “It was crazy; even though I was on the field and all of leadership was composed, we lost it once our names were called for all superiors.”

Last week, the band implemented new visuals in some of the movements. Many said something they were proud of is that they were able to execute the visuals well and get superior in visual performance. Unanimously, everyone agreed that the thing they are most looking forward to for the upcoming competitions in the season is winning. Jackson Carter (12) shares that “the ability that we have to get grand champion” excites him for the rest of the season.

The Marching Warriors next competition is this Saturday Oct 5, at Monroe Area High School. This week, the band is pushing themselves more than ever in order to win the competition right here in Walton County. “I’m going to push myself by being more attentive during practice and making sure everybody else is at attention. Also keeping people’s spirits up.” Cris Brown (11) states. Samuel Seybert (11) adds, “I’m going to focus on me as an individual and how I can bring myself to the next level and hopefully help bring the band to the next level as well.”
