The Walnut Grove community is pleased to add Ms. Aviles to WGHS not only to support our students, but also share her background. by Amelia May and Brody Rankin WGHS has hired a new psychologist for students at the school. The stress of school work, coupled with outside pressures, can be exhausting. Sometimes, students need a resource to get advice about their stressors and problems, whether they relate to school or outside issues. A school psychologist can offer guidance, help relieve student stress, and provide a personal connection to discuss both academic and outside issues.
Ms. Aviles is from Puerto Rico, and after transferring to the Walton County school system, was placed at WGHS to be a psychologist. She shares, "...I completed my Master’s degree in School Psychology at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico." She loves helping students through times of stress and giving advice for school. Ms. Aviles originally planned on music for her career but still enjoys being a psychologist and helping students. She says, "At first, I wanted to study something in the visual arts or music. I love creating and drawing, and I took vocal lessons." She continues, "...I participated in choir groups and studied piano." WGHS is known for being welcoming to new staff and students, especially when they are new to the area. So far at WGHS, Ms. Aviles has felt nothing but welcome as she enters the staff team. She expresses, "...I felt welcomed by every staff member and student I encountered. This is my first year working as a school psychologist in the United States and in Walton County, and the experience has been exceptional." The staff and students are glad to have Ms. Aviles as WGHS’s new school psychologist. WG’s community is extremely excited to see the changes she makes in attitude and environment.
