Last week, Nintendo livestreamed two new Directs, revealing many fan favorites’ anticipated returns.
In the latest Nintendo Direct, Monster Hunter Wilds kicked things off with an announcement that it will be brought to the Nintendo Switch 2 with a massive expansion launching on December 4 of this year. From there, Nintendo announced more and more updates and new releases, even involving a brand-new Kirby video game with the title Kirby and the World Beyond. Kirby and the World Beyond will arrive in spring 2027 for Kirby’s 35th anniversary. Outside of Kirby’s upcoming new release, there was still plenty more for fans to anticipate announced in this Nintendo Direct. The Metroid franchise made its comeback alongside Kirby with the announcement of Metroid Ravenous, which will see the return of Samus Aran as she crashes on an unknown moon and is ambushed by mysterious assassins. Nintendo also revealed the launch of Mega Man: Dual Override, Persona 6, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition. The day prior, however, Nintendo also streamed a new Zelda Direct, in which they announced a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time game and the 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2. Sawyer Casaday says, “The new Kirby game that's coming out next spring seems really fun. I'm a big fan of the series.” As an enjoyer of the Kirby franchise, Sawyer seems to be looking forward to what Nintendo is cooking up. He later remarked, "I mean, the first few games they announced weren't really anything, but then they announced Metroid, the new Zelda remake, and the new Kirby game, and, you know, probably the first few games they announced." Sawyer also mentioned that he would really like to see a new Super Smash Bros. game, especially since it’s been almost eight years since the last installment in the game’s series. On the other side of the spectrum, Jacob Durden was excited about the announcement for Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, revealed during the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. He specifically mentioned, "I've been wanting to play Ocarina of Time for a while now, but I haven't found a reason to. So, this has given me a reason to." Jacob also made sure to watch the main Direct the next day, and out of everything announced, Metroid Ravenous stood out to him, with Jacob even stating, "I just don't like Metroid Ravenous that much; it's just not my kind of game," but he also mentioned that, "It does seem interesting. Like, I'm sure the people who like Metroid Ravenous are excited about it." Jacob says he would’ve liked to have seen some more Mario in the Nintendo Direct, and would’ve even loved to see a new 3D Mario: "I'm looking forward to one of those because it's been a while; it's been nine years." So, from a new Zelda remake to an all-new Kirby game, Nintendo fans have been given plenty to await, and when there’s plenty more for Nintendo to announce sometime from now, the future of gaming looks optimistic.
