This tradition is cherished by many but also strengthens the bonds between team members and fosters a sense of unity and support within the squad. As the big sisters welcomed all their littles into the cheer community, the event was filled with joy, laughter, and a sense of community... This year’s reveal was particularly special, showcasing the great spirit and camaraderie that make Walnut Grove’s cheerleading team so exceptional.
Senior, Maggie Shumate had Maddie Glaze as her little. Maggie’s first thoughts were, “It was super cute, and I loved all the colors and sparkles- I'm so thankful for this season, and I wouldn’t have changed anything about it! It was super fun and every home game the stands were always packed!” Maddie Glaze described how she felt about this year's seniors, “To me personally, they are impactful. Some of these girls I've been cheering with since middle school and I've always looked up to them. Another thing about them is that they're not just talented people, they're good people. I feel like I could come to any of them and ask them anything or come to them and talk to them about something personal and they'd have me in their best interest and that's just really nice to have people on your side.”
Ava Pittman, senior, was truly touched by her little reveal. Her trunk decor spoke out the most to her, “It just screamed at me, it was Barbie themed and I'm Barbie because my favorite color is pink and I'm blonde so it was very me.”
Payton Scott explained her process of making the reveal so impactful, "I had to go to the store and get gifts for a little basket that I was supposed to give for her, and then we decorated the car with the things her mom brought." Many girls agreed that the seniors had a massive impact on the team and the unity throughout the squad. This tradition enhances the bond between the lower-classmen and senior students. Both Scarlett McFall and Oliva Mahn agree the seniors have made the team comfortable and more talented. Miss McFall continues, “They are all so sweet, and they help you with anything that you need, and they're all just so funny and caring for all the cheerleaders on the team.” Oliva adds, “They never make it awkward to ask them questions or anything. They just make you feel very open to talk to them about anything, and since they have been here longer than everyone else, they are experienced, so they help you with anything that you have questions about.”
This year the seniors shared many rewarding experiences, Ava Pittman’s favorite moment this season, "...was senior night, like everybody just came together as a team and loved on one another and like love on the seniors and juniors and everybody just felt loved and we got to have our whole team there and we haven't done that in a long time so it was really good."
Maggie Shumate shared another favorite memory: “The most special part was being able to experience senior year activities like getting to have a megaphone that I've been looking forward to for four years. The Loganville game is the most memorable game from this season because the energy was so high the whole time, and the bus ride home was super fun!” The Walnut Grove cheerleaders’ Big and Little reveal was a heartwarming event filled with excitement and camaraderie. Senior cheerleaders’, Ava Pittman, Maggie Shumate, Aspen Bowman, and many others have celebrated team unity and mentorship with their “little” sisters in the squad.
