American comedy and reality television program Ridiculousness has been cancelled after 14 years and 46 seasons on MTV. Here’s what two members of VIRIDIAN News’ staff had to say. by Emery Brown and Justin Andrio First, what was Ridiculousness? First airing on MTV on August 29, 2011, the program was hosted by American entrepreneur and former professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek. Dyrdek, alongside cohosts Steelo Brim and Chanel West Coast, would review viral videos of the day, adding an extra comedic layer of commentary to a live studio audience. The program featured numerous celebrity cohosts, from musicians like Tyler, the Creator, to actors like Eric Andre, offering a unique lens into their personalities through humor. However, on October 31, 2025, TMZ reported that “MTV has officially pulled the plug on ‘Ridiculousness’ ... ending one of the longest-running series in the network's history” (TMZ). Allegedly, the decision came from MTV executives following the company’s push for a new, fresh roster of programming and innovation (E!). Despite everything, Dyrdek, 51, doesn’t seem to be too saddened by the cancellation. He explained, "I was growing out of having that ball cap and standing on the 'Ridiculousness' stage and dancing" (TMZ). Dydek looks forward to his new “time intelligence program” Existence, which he calls his “magnum opus.” VIRIDIAN News staff Justin Andrio and Emery Brown, long-time fans of the program, share their thoughts on the cancellation. (photo courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes) Justin: Ridiculousness was not just a childhood show for me; it has grown into a show for all audiences —adults and Teenagers. The show was so funny to me because it was just random clips of people doing dumb stuff, which made it so funny to teenagers. Ridiculousness was so popular that it had over a hundred celebrities collaborating on the show with Steelo Brim, Chanel West Coast, and Rob Dyrdek. One of my favorite episodes was the one where UFC Founder Dana White was on the show, and they had an amazing time watching all these videos of people and what they did. Emery:
Ridiculousness was a childhood staple for me, with some of my earliest memories being coming home from kindergarten and shuffling onto the couch next to my dad, watching the program for hours at a time. Despite the warning at the beginning of each episode against submissions, my group of neighborhood friends would perform various dangerous, unsupervised, and unrecorded stunts with hopes of somehow being featured. All this to say, the loss of Ridiculousness and the decline of MTV as a whole saddens me greatly. I have a lot of respect for Dyrdek and the entertainment empire he has built over the years. However, I know the show will be remembered for the laughs it brought to millions for over a decade, and I wish Rob well in his future business endeavors. While no new episodes of Ridiculousness are in the works, MTV will continue to air reruns of old episodes into 2026 (Variety). The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
