Many students and parents in the community “go all out” to show school spirit at the Warrior’s Friday football games. A few of the VIRIDIAN staff and WGHS students share their opinions about the fall football themes.

My Warrior Pride
By: Ansleigh Hester Since my freshman year at WG, I’ve always loved dressing up for the football themes. For one of the pink-out games, I brought a hot pink, fluffy cowgirl hat that I wore proudly. For the East Forsyth game (at home), I plan on “upping my pink-out game” with my pink hat, pink face paint, and just more pink! The top three themes I’m most excited about are white-out, superhero night, and neon night. The white-out theme seems basic, but I predict that some students will bring colorful poppers into the student section. I plan on wearing my white “Warriors” shirt (that I’ve had since 7th grade) since the shirt will probably get stained from the colors. My vision for superhero night is dressing up as Iron Man because I have the famous Tony Stark glasses. On Amazon, I’ve seen that there’s neon face paint that I want to invest in for Neon Night. Showing school spirit at football games encourages our teams at WG to achieve greatness. Many believe that dressing up for football games is fun (which it is), but it’s more than just having a good time with friends. It’s a time to cheer on your alma mater and make an impact on your home team!
Anticipation for the Warrior Football Games
By: Talia Banks Since this is my first year at WGHS, I haven't been able to experience anything yet, but I am looking forward to going to games. I am excited to go because I have heard some great things about the football team. I'm looking forward to participating in the pink-out and white-out games. I am thrilled for pink-out because one of my favorite colors is pink, and there are a lot of pink things you can wear like a pink tutu, hat, face/leg paints, necklaces, leg warmers, tops, pants & so many more Next I’m excited for the white-out because I heard there were going to be color poppers that are going to explode and get on everyone’s clothes. That would be so fun to see and to experience. Most people think that white is a basic color but in my opinion I really like the color white because it's a very rare color. For the white I will probably buy a cheap, plain white tee, white sweatpants or jean shorts from either Walmart or Target since I wouldn't like for any of my white clothes from home to get ruined. I can not wait to attend one of the football games and to show my WGHS spirit with my family and friends. It's a good way to have collective pride and to socialize with other peers.
Shannon Hayes: Excitement for Specific Themes
Senior, Shannon Hayes shares her opinion on the WG football themes. “I like that they're different from normal themes. In the past, we've had the same ones, but I think they should be a little different every year,” Hayes explains. She mentions that last year wasn’t as creative as this year's, so she’s pumped to dress up for the new home game themes. “Last year, there wasn't anything specific [themes]. We had a neon night, green, black-out night. This year, we have a superhero one [theme], and a Hawaiian theme,” Hayes expresses. Hawaiian night (this year) is a time she reminisces about her freshman year. “I go all out… for Hawaiian night. Freshman year, I bought a kit with a hula skirt, bunch of lace, and florals.” She loves to go “all out” for the football games because it livens up her Friday night. “...I try to go full out whenever I can,” Hayes concludes.
Davis Gray: Patriotic Dignity (USA Night)
Junior, Davis Gray agrees that having the themes is a good way to get students involved with events at WG. “It's nice to have something like [the themes], especially when I go to the football games,” Gray shares. For the USA theme, Gray plans on wearing some patriotic clothing to show his school spirit. Gray explains, “...I could wear some jeans and an American flag shirt… just something patriotic.” Participating in the themes, Gray usually doesn’t go “all out” like some of his peers do, but he always likes to participate in some way to support his home team. Gray notices that a lot of students will take the themes very seriously, “ I will be walking around, and I will see a few people wearing things… they dress up.”
White-Out Theme: This Friday’s Walnut Grove @ Loganville game
This Friday night, the Warriors will be playing their “home-town” rivals, the Red Devils. The theme for this game is wearing all white. Davis Gray says that the white-out theme isn’t very original in his opinion. “I feel like the white-out is just white clothes which is pretty basic,” he says. Personally, we feel that the white-out can be as creative as the student section warrants. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
