The critically acclaimed gory K-drama Squid Game returned on December 26 with its second season on Netflix. This has WGHS wondering if they have what it takes to win that 45.6 billion Won (31 Million USD.)
Mr. Mozley claims that he wouldn’t even make it to the second of the six games, choosing to leave if possible once the true nature of the games is revealed. “After the first round when I see people mowed down with a machine gun, I’m done.” Regarding the team-based games such as Tug-Of-War, he says he offers his team, “Not so much physicality but I guess problem-solving.” However, he would be unable to act in the difficult ethical dilemmas that come with progressing in the games. Hypothetically, say he did win the prize money, he has big plans in store. “I would settle any [monetary] debts that I or my family have. . . Other than that, I would get myself a classic VW Westfalia bus with a camper top, restored or original, it doesn’t matter to me. Other than that, I would seek to invest wisely” Contrarily, Felix Menendez, a senior, would be willing to risk his life for the prize, claiming, “As long as I’m getting paid, I’ll do whatever it takes.” While he believes that he could offer valuable leadership to any potential teammates, he doesn’t think he would make it past the first game. However, if he did win, he had a goal that most students could get behind: “I would buy TikTok.” Assistant Principal Mrs. Smith said that she would leave the games if she could, calling them creepy and joking, “Man if I didn’t believe I could win, why even play?” Despite this, if she had to play, she would offer her team strength and prove to be dedicated. “Whatever [it takes to win] is such a broad statement but I’m pretty competitive and cut-throat. . . But I wouldn’t do something immoral.” She concludes with stating that if she won, “I would live the life. I would bless other people and just have no worries, you know?” Finally, Miles Brown, a sophomore, would vote to stay in the games if granted the opportunity to leave, yet claims he wouldn’t get very far. Still, he states that he could offer his team moral support and would do anything to win, adding a wink to that last statement. In his hands, the 45.6 billion Won jackpot would be on simple things such as a house, a nice motorcycle, and a cat. Squid Game returns to Netflix with season three on June 27, 2025.
