Student Section

At Walnut Grove the students come together to cheer on our Warriors to hype them up throughout each football game using thrilling and creative chants to encourage our players.

The Walnut Grove (WG) student section brings unmatched energy and passion to every football game, always creating an inspiring environment that enhances the WG warrior’s spirit, as well as bonding the school community together. Both Shannon Hayes (12) and Jazmyne Black (12) agree “[The student section] keeps the players hyped up... especially when they know they have people watching, which makes them want to perform better.” Miss Black adds, “When we cheer it encourages them (WG warriors) and reminds them that there are people supporting them (WG warriors).” 

The student section uses thrilling cheers, chants, and other exciting props to electrify and have intense energy flowing throughout the students and supporters. The students who are a part of the WG student section enjoy all the game day chants, like Shannon Hayes (12) says, “I like that we have so many different [cheers] for each [play], so we aren’t just doing the same ones over and over again.”

Some other fan favorite chants are “The chop” and “go fight” shared by Gracie Starrett (10) and Cade Riffle (11). Some students express their thoughts on how supporting the football team impacts each game, Brayden Kelly believes the cheers “gives them momentum, and it gets them going which makes the team hyped.”

​Jazmyne Black(12) would agree, “It definitely brings the energy up, and I think when we (the student section)  are loud it gets the football team pumped up and encourages them to do better.”

​Throughout the game, the student section's job is to show stellar school spirit by using various themes, props, and decorations. Each football game has an organized theme for students, families, and friends to dress out for and show their support to Walnut Grove and our Warrior football team.

Being a part of the Walnut Grove student section, students must be loud, spirited, and on their toes. The student section leaders want to grow the student community and have a larger group of students involved more and more each game. Skylar Ward (10) shares her thoughts about the amount of students that attend the games, "The student section is really fun but not a lot of students are a part of it, so there is more potential if we had more students in it."

Jazmyne Black(12) also added, ”I wish more people would come and just support because the more people the better.” The student section is made for anyone and everyone who enjoys watching football, being surrounded by positive energy, and also people who want to support Walnut Grove.

The WG student section is a highlight for many students during football season, but it has many goals to reach throughout this year, like continuing to strengthen the school’s community and bond together students, expanding school spirit within Walnut Grove. It allows the students an opportunity to show school spirit and to just have a merry time.

The student section leaders invite all students of Walnut Grove to come out and support WG warriors by dressing out with each theme, cheering as loud as possible, and lastly having exhilarating energy.
