Student Spotlight: Ellie Clower

Ellie Clower is a sophomore at WGHS who is involved in different activities.

Ellie Clower is the best example of what it looks like when someone truly loves staying active and being involved. When she talks about her life, she smiles and says she started playing softball, track, and flag football simply because she liked them. “I ended up playing softball, track, and flag football because I’ve always found a liking to sports,” she says. It is something that feels natural for her. “I love playing them, so I play different sports year-round.” Sports have become her break from everything else, a way to relax after school, and something she looks forward to every day. “I find sports as an outlet from school and a different thing to do each night,” she explains.

Out of all her sports, softball is the one that has shaped her the most. “Softball feels the most ‘me’ because I have been playing my whole life,” she says. She has traveled all over for it and has made friends who have stayed close to her for years. “I have traveled the country for it, and I have found it a place where I can most be myself with the people,” she says. She talks about how the people she met through softball have changed her life in ways she will always be grateful for. “The relationships I have made have been the most impactful on my life,” she adds.

Handling three sports and school at the same time is not simple. She is open about the hardest part. “The hardest part about juggling so many activities is keeping up with my schoolwork schedule and maintaining a somewhat decent sleep schedule,” she says. Even with all the pressure, she stays committed to her classes. “I try to work very hard in class and I do my best to maintain a steady working schedule when I have time to do my work at home,” she says.

All of her effort shows whenever she talks about her proudest moments. She smiles immediately when she talks about something she will never forget. “Hitting my first home run in high school,” she says. “It was by far the farthest one I have hit, and it was in a huge moment in the game.” You can tell it is something she is genuinely proud of.

Her motivation comes from home. “My family keeps me motivated because they have always been here for me no matter what,” she says. She carries that support with her in everything she does, on and off the field.

Even with such a busy schedule, she still makes time for the small things that make her happy. “I like to draw and play card games,” she says. It is a reminder that she is not just an athlete, but a person with quiet interests, too. Ellie shows what it means to stay focused, work hard, and still find joy in the things you love. She is involved, dedicated, and mindful of the people around her. She does not try to stand out, but she does anyway because of how she carries herself and how much heart she puts into everything she does.

All in all, Ellie Clower is an exceptional student and a great example for others to follow. She has set the stars high, being involved and active in school activities.
