With graduation getting closer for the Class of 2026 at WGHS, many seniors are starting to look ahead to what life will be like after high school.
Devon Cape For Devon, the future is all about new opportunities. “Going to college and making new friends at Young Harris,” he said when asked what he’s most excited about after graduation. Even with the excitement of leaving, Devon admitted there are some things that will be hard to say goodbye to. “I think something I’ll miss the most is just staying close to home and being able to be familiar with everything around me.” One thing he hopes to try someday is something a little more adventurous: “I’m hoping to go skydiving at least once in my life.” Looking back at high school, some of the best memories came from simple moments like going to football games. In the future, Devon says the goal is clear: “Having a career and making money in life.” Quantevious Boyce Quantevious is also focused on what comes next after graduation. When asked about plans after high school, he said, “Working and going to college.” But when it comes to what will be missed the most about WGHS, the answer was simple: “My besties.” Like many students, Quantevious also mentioned something a lot of seniors can relate to missing—“school lunch.” Looking ahead, Quantevious has big dreams for the future and shared the goal to “get to the big leagues.” Emori Maolud-Lewis For Emori, graduation feels like the beginning of a completely new chapter. “I really am just excited to start a new chapter in my life, like go to college, make new friends, new experiences, and things like that,” she said. Even with all the excitement about the future, Emori said there are definitely things about high school that will be missed. “Probably just being able to hang out with my high school friends... and things you can’t do in college as much because it’s such a bigger environment.” Emori also mentioned school traditions and events like “football games, prom, homecoming... just different school events and participating.” One memory that stood out the most for Emori was freshman year homecoming. “Definitely my freshman year homecoming. Homecoming has never been this good as my freshman year homecoming. That was such a great experience.” She hopes to get more involved and try new things. “Definitely joining a bunch of clubs and different things in college. I’ll be more adventurous and go out more, I think.” For her, the future is about growing and experiencing more of the world: “Just getting new experiences, broadening my horizons, and becoming an adult.” Addison Simpson Addison is also looking forward to the next chapter after graduating from WGHS. “Going to college and meeting new people. I’m very excited for this next chapter of my life,” she said. While she’s excited about what’s ahead, she knows there are parts of high school she’ll miss, especially the sports atmosphere. “Probably the sporting events. I always loved going to football, basketball, and baseball games, as well as playing for the softball and golf team myself.” Addison is planning to attend GSU, where she will be rushing, something she says is both exciting and a little nerve-wracking because of meeting so many new people. Looking toward the future, she plans to pursue a degree in exercise science and hopes to attend PA school to eventually work in women’s health. “I am very excited about the future and what it holds!” Whether it’s heading off to college, starting a new job, chasing big dreams, or simply stepping into a new chapter of life, the seniors of WGHS are ready for what comes next.
