The Movie "Flow" - VIRIDIAN News Staff Were Swept Away

The movie Flow came out on October 30th, 2024. Entertainment staff DaNija Thomas and Arwen Burrows and Sports staff Makayla Bryson gave their opinion and thoughts.​

When it comes to movies with nobody talking, it’s something that I really don’t tune into. But I like the fact that it puts some type of spotlight on the cat because it makes it feel like you can always do things on your own, but it’s also hard to survive the wilderness by yourself when you are alone. I am a very sensitive person, so it was very emotional to me seeing all the animals' homes getting washed away in the flood and seeing that they have nowhere to go. I just didn’t like how there were no humans in this movie and there was no talking whatsoever. Overall I really actually enjoyed the movie. I feel like some people would really love to watch this movie, and I somewhat recommend it.

I don't usually watch movies with people/animals that don’t talk. But, this movie was just fine without it. I think that they wanted us to focus more on what's happening and pay closer attention to the animal's behavior. Weirdly, I kinda liked it. It was very emotional. It started with the flood coming and washed away all of the animals' homes. The cat looked like it was already all alone so when its home was destroyed, it made me sad. When they are being washed away, the Cat finds a boat to keep refuge on and a capybara joins the cat. Eventually, more animals start to join and you can already tell it’s a movie about working together and trusting each other. 

Another one of the most noticeable things to me was the animation. Honestly, most of the scenes were mesmerizing! I haven’t watched a movie with this kind of animation; it kind of felt like it was a game, not a movie, and I was watching the pre-story. I thought that it was absolutely beautiful, especially during the sunset scenes. I loved the animation.

There was also an important scene where they were walking through a city and there were no humans. We never got a real explanation as to where they were or where the cat owners were or maybe I just missed it! It was a little hard for me a few times to understand what was going on because I'm so used to movies without just audio splashes and animal noises. However, I still think it is a great movie and probably going to be used in schools. I’d say it's a good break from other movies and I would recommend watching it if you want a different animation style and movie.

I think that the movie Flow was okay. I didn’t think I would like it at all because nobody was talking. I think that without all the talking you had to really pay attention to what was happening and understand the story they are trying to tell. I thought it would be really hard to understand what they are trying to get across without talking, but for the most part, I feel like I got it. I think certain parts were easier to understand than others because you could tell with the emotions. Overall I don’t think it was a bad movie, and I think some people would like it.
