With Scary Movie 6 coming out June 5, 2026, students are sharing their thoughts on the return of the parody series. From excitement about the Wayans brothers and Doofy Gilmore to questions about whether the franchise should continue, opinions are mixed.
Ashlynn Melton, a junior, is one of many students who grew up watching the Scary Movie films and has strong opinions about the franchise’s return. Having seen every movie in the series, Ashlynn described them as consistently entertaining, stating, “I’ve seen them all, and they’re honestly just really funny every time.” She believes the over-the-top humor and ridiculous scenes are what make the movies stand out compared to traditional horror films. Ashlynn, aware of the upcoming release of Scary Movie 6, looks forward to it. “I’m excited because I think they're hilarious,” she said, adding that even if the jokes are sometimes predictable, the movies still manage to be entertaining. For her, the appeal lies in not taking anything too seriously and just enjoying the comedy. A big part of that excitement comes from the return of the Wayans brothers, who were heavily involved in the earlier films. Ashlynn believes their presence will make a noticeable difference. “I’m excited they’re coming back because they made the original movies funnier… I feel like their style of humor is what made Scary Movie what it is.” When it comes to returning characters, Ashlynn didn’t hesitate to mention Deputy Doofy. “Yes, we love Doofy,” she said, referring to the iconic and absurd character. However, she also pointed out that bringing back old characters can be risky. “It’s hard to bring back old characters, like they do in the Scream movies, because it doesn’t always work… But since Scary Movie is a parody, I think it’ll work in the movie's favor and make it funnier instead of feeling forced.” Despite her excitement, Melton admits she has mixed feelings about continuing the series. “Personally, I think the series probably should have ended already.” Still, she acknowledges that, “The movies are funny enough that they keep making them without too much negative feedback, especially if people just go in expecting to laugh.” Overall, reactions to Scary Movie 6 reflect a mix of nostalgia and cautious optimism. While some, like Ashlynn Melton, question whether the series should have continued, there’s still a clear excitement surrounding its return. Whether the film delivers something fresh or leans into its classic humor, one thing is certain—students will be watching to see if the franchise can still make them laugh.
