The Summer I turned Pretty (Hot Take - Team?)

Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty has been taking fans by storm this summer. The romantic television drama, based on a novel of the same name by Jenny Han, follows Isabella Conklin, or Belly, as she struggles to find out which one of the Fisher brothers she wants to spend her life with. This begs the question: Is WGHS Team Jeremiah or Team Conrad? Here’s what students had to say:

Bailey Simpson, a freshman, said that she is Team Conrad, claiming he is the superior boyfriend. “Conrad is just like a good boyfriend. Even though they're not dating yet. And that scene on the peach farm, I just love it.” She also mentions her pet peeve of the show, more so, about Jeremiah: “Jeremiah, when the cake, his little raspberry cake, he was more worried  about the cake than he was about Belly and the wedding.” Bailey hopes to see Belly end up with Conrad, instead of being alone, in future episodes. She hopes the series has a different ending than The Kissing Booth.

Michael Eck, a sophomore who watched the show with his girlfriend, said, “I’m Team Jeremiah because he’s just a cuter guy, and he just deserves her more. Conrad is more of a distant guy and doesn’t explain his feelings, and Jeremiah can have a conversation, so I think they look better together. I don’t like how distant Conrad is. When something’s wrong, he just runs away from it. I want to see Jeremiah, and Belly get married in the future.”

Ava Tanner, a junior, also said she was Team Conrad. “Conrad, in my opinion, has always treated [Belly] better than Jeremiah. And, he didn't cheat on her.” She also states the fact that Belly can not choose who she wants to end up with and says that it is one of her pet peeves.  “One of my pet peeves is definitely the fact that Belly can't choose between one of them." Ava concludes by saying, “Hopefully, Belly ends up with Conrad or by herself, because Jeremiah is not good for her.”

Scarlett McFall, a sophomore, said, “I’m Team Conrad because she has liked her since they have known each other. He is actually genuine and he’ll do anything to see Belly happy, even if that means not being with her. The show is low-key cringe, and Jeremiah is annoying, and I feel like it could be more accurate to the book. I want to see Belly and Conrad getting married and Jeremiah dying.”
