TSA and engineering students explore UGA’s I-stem facility center discovering modern manufacturing, new research, and a variety of engineering opportunities. by Rylee Watson Bridging the gap between classrooms and real-world opportunities, the University of Georgia’s STEM facility recently allowed students in TSA and engineering members a glimpse into the future of science and technology. Kaiden Hyde has been a part of engineering for two years now. He shares, “I wanted to go on the tour at UGA to see all of the campus and the engineering facility. I wanted to get an idea of what it would be like to be a part of the engineering pathway at UGA.” Like many members of the engineering pathway at WG, Kaiden enjoyed getting an insight into UGA’s STEM pathway. The recent tour was widely described as “very interesting” and was seen as a positive opportunity for many students. The TSA students brought a unique perspective to the tour, asking insightful questions and absorbing the valuable knowledge about the latest advancements in STEM. One TSA member, Gabby Charles, has been participating in TSA for two years now. A variety of TSA students had similar thoughts on the UGA tour overall, generally seen as “...an amazing learning environment.” Gabby expresses her favorite details about the tour. She shares, “My favorite things about the tour were the manufacturing center and how it benefits the environment. We went to the manufacturing facility, and we learned about all the different types of engineering and the different jobs inside of manufacturing.” She continues, “The professors are amazing, I think the learning environment there is just something I'm interested in. UGA gives you so much opportunity and the classes aren't that big, so your professor will be able to talk to you and be close and personal.” Between all the TSA and engineering students, the tour of UGA’s STEM facility was extremely positive and assured many students about their passion within their particular pathways. WGHS is anticipating where our students will be visiting next, wishing luck to both our TSA and engineering students as they continue exploring modern manufacturing, new research, and a variety of STEM opportunities for their futures.
