The Walnut Grove High School JV Girls Flag Football team had a busy week, going up against their rivals, Loganville, and tough opponent, Monroe County. by Kweku Assan and AJ Diaz WGHS JV Vs Monroe
The Warriors JV flag football team beat Monroe Area and Loganville. Sable Harris, a sophomore, was confident. She said, “I think the games are going to be a good challenge, and I believe we will win.” The Grove beat Monroe with a score of 13-7. The game was challenging with both sides giving all they got, but the Warriors were able to come out on top. WGHS JV vs. Loganville The girls were also able to beat Loganville with a score of 7-6. The game was a close win with many good intercepts and turnovers. Lulu Smoot, a freshman at Walnut Grove, scored a touchdown putting them in the lead against Loganville. The warriors were able to score the conversion after the touchdown giving them a 7 point lead. Loganville scored shortly after, but were not successful in scoring their 1 point conversion. This is what Lulu had to say after the game. “We have to work on throwing the ball with fewer interceptions. Also being more mindful where the defenders are at and working on our offsides like watching the line” The Warriors have had a great start to their season and are ready for their game on Wednesday. WGHS vs Winder and Christian The Walnut Grove Warrior Varsity Girls Flag Football unfortunately lost both of their opening games to Christian and Winder Barrow. They took tough losses but showed great resilience to be able to play with confidence. The girls took these two games as learning experiences. Alexis Cain, Junior, is on the varsity team. She said, “I think we were ready, we just need to work on certain things because most of our team just got back from softball and volleyball, so we didn't have many practices.” She continues, ”I think it was good to go out and play harder teams to learn what we need to work on.” The Warriors play again on Wednesday, October 29th at Cedar Shoals.
