The Lady Warriors placed 3rd out of six in the Walton Cup. The teams who participated were all the schools in Walton County. Those schools were (according to Monroe Local News): the Loganville Red Devils (Loganville, GA), the Monroe Area Hurricanes (Monroe, GA), the Walnut Grove Warriors (Walnut Grove, GA), the Social Circle Redskins (Social Circle), the Loganville Christian Academy Lions (Loganville, GA), and the George Walton Academy Bulldogs (Monroe, GA).
The overall winner of the tournament were the Loganville Red Devils, followed by the LCA Lions in second place, and the Walnut Grove Warriors rounded out the top three, according to Teresha Smith (11th). Teresha Smith thought the tournament went well. She said, “We did good. We played really attentive. We could’ve beat them, but things happen.” Smith felt that the team needs to improve on being more persistent. Josie Knight (10th) also felt the team did really well. “We’ve definitely gotten better since the beginning of the season, but I think we did good.” However, Josie thinks the team needs to keep their energy up during games. “[We need to] definitely [be] keeping our energy up because I feel like once we lose [energy], that is when we [go] more downhill.” Memphis Thompson (11th) thinks the team “did pretty good.” She says, “I think we did really, really well. There could’ve been a few more calls [by the refs] and plays we could’ve made. We played our hearts out trying to beat Loganville in the semifinals, but we failed.” Memphis thinks the team can work on “communication and energy” when on the court. The Warriors will play the back-to-back DI-A State Champs, the Trinity Prep Lions and the Apalachee Wildcats on Tuesday, August 26th, at home. Come out and support your Warriors in a statement win effort! The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
