Walnut Grove Basketball Team Tryouts

With the Basketball season looming, the Boys’ basketball team hosts tryouts this Monday and Tuesday.

With the Basketball season looming, the Boys’ basketball team hosts tryouts this Monday and Tuesday. Many new Warriors flocked to the gym, hoping to secure their spot on the roster. Although last year featured a shaky season, the Warriors are optimistic about this new year. 

Returning star player Zy Burce shares his opinion on the upcoming season. “We should perform great this year. I expect us to win eight more games than last year. I believe we could [make state]. [To make state, we need to] really focus and lock in.”

Will Tyre, another returning player, has expectations for the new season, “It’s going to be different cause we had a lot of sophomores last year and now we are all juniors. We now have more chemistry and work better together.”

The Boys’ Basketball Team hopes to build off the experience from last year and take a leap this year. Head basketball Coach Whitley explains what he wants to see from these tryouts. “I want to see people compete. We only have so many jerseys to give out, and I want to see people give their all to earn one.”  Coach Whitley also describes what he hopes to see in this new season. “We have to keep growing. Last year, we experienced a lot of growing pains, and hopefully, we will see some growth out of that. We had a good summer and fall, so I hope that carries into this season.”

The Basketball team hopes to have a big season this year. Walnut Grove is ready for its returning stars and promising newcomers.

The team hits the court on November 4th against Forsyth Central.
