The Walnut Grove softball varsity team played against Flowery Branch on Thursday, September 5th, 2024. They played Madison County the following Tuesday, September 10th. The Warriors won both games, helping their overall regional placement heading into the playoff push.

The Warriors came out victorious against the Flowery Branch Falcons. The game was balanced on both sides, but the Warriors were able to come out on top. Although they won, the team thought they would do better against the Falcons. Lexi Cain, junior, said, “I think we did good, but I think we should have hit the ball more than we did and tried to get into their head.” She felt good about the team's win and was asked how she felt about the satisfying victory. “Of course, it feels good because it's a regional game, but next time we play them I think we will beat them a little more.” She continues, “we did good as a team, but I think we could've done better. We have small errors on the field that we need to work on like connecting our hits and hitting them back to back.”

Skylar Ward, sophomore, agrees with Lexi, saying, “I think we improved some, but there are still things we can do better on.... I think we should work on hitting and being more aggressive.”

Aviya Thompson, senior, agrees with the two, but she believes that they should work together more. “We should focus more on little things, like making sure we make the outs that we need to make and focusing on hitting the ball.”

The team played again on Tuesday, September 10th, against Madison County in another region game. The Warriors prevailed, 5-1, over the Red Raiders.

The game from Tuesday was an improvement from Thursday's game. Amelia Arledge, sophomore, remarked, “I think we all did very well, and we improved this game from our past games.” She also mentioned the way they were able to fix their tiny mistakes, saying, “The little things count.”

UPDATE:
Unfortunately, the team’s win streak was taken on Wednesday night against the Buford Wolves, 9-1. This shouldn’t stop fans from showing up and showing out for the Lady Warriors. The next game is on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024, against the North Oconee Titans in a big region game.
