The Walnut Grove Varsity Football team hosted its cross-town rivals in a big rivalry game. The Loganville Red Devils traveled to Warrior Stadium, and the Warriors defeated the Red Devils in a defensive battle, 7-0.

The defensive side of the ball was very dominant for both teams, especially the Warriors. The only score of the game came on a fumble by the Loganville quarterback. Jackson Bryant (#24, Junior) forced the fumble and Jake Moss (#6, Senior) recovered it in the end zone.
Jackson Andrews (#25, Senior) had multiple huge punts. One of the punts was a 65+ yard punt to pin Loganville inside their own ten. After that, the Warriors forced the fumble, resulting in the game’s only score. Even though the weather conditions were very poor, the fans still showed up and showed out in this season’s “White Out” game. The game was delayed multiple times, but even then, the fans stayed with some encouragement from Coach Julius Carrafa. Matthew Compton (#26, Freshman) plays for the Warriors. Matthew thinks the win skyrocketed the team morale. He says, “It raised us because they’re [our] rivals, and we’ve been talking about beating them for a long time. Even though we didn’t win by a lot, it was still [a great win].” Jake Moss (#6, Senior) was very excited about beating Loganville. He says, “It feels great. I don’t really like them boys in red, and it feels crazy to beat our crosstown rivals.” Jake and the team felt angry after Loganville blocked one of Zach McDaniels’ field goals, so they strategized and eventually scored. Jake says, “So the first play, I was looking at the [Loganville offensive] formation and saw it was a trick play, so I shot through the gap and made a TFL. Then, they were on the one [yard line] and [a] coach told me to [blitz] and then me and Jackson Andrews hit [Loganville’s QB] at the same time, knocked the ball out and we scored.” Jake also described the team’s new saying this year. “Well our team saying this year is ‘FAMI1LY-0,’ which means we are a family. Then, the 1-0 [in the saying] means win the day.” The Warriors improved to 2-0 after beating the Red Devils for the second straight year. The Varsity Boys will travel to Apalachee High School to face off against the Wildcats.
