Walnut Grove cross country athletes and coaches spoke about their plan for making it to state. Madison Myers (10) explained, "It is a lot of running, …practice looks like, running around the track, running around the school, sometimes when it's raining we run in the school, and sometimes we do workouts in the AUX gym.” She commented on potential improvements for herself and the team, “I plan to focus on dropping my mile time so I can get faster and run with strong striders and such.”
Ian Watson placed 6th in the Walton County XC Championship out of five schools. He shared some exercises he does to make sure he does good in his meets, “I add in hip flexors and squatting movements, and I am always stretching.” He has a few exercises that help him stay locked in during the race, “One thing that I’ve started to work on is not getting burnt out easily. It includes lots of breathing exercises, and it’s mainly a form thing.” Elijah Booth is a student-athlete at Walnut Grove. He runs for the Cross Country Team, while also being on the varsity wrestling team asked about the practices, conditioning, and workouts the team does, he said, “Practice is, like, we usually get there around 2:45 and just mess around till, like, 3:15 and then go on a warm-up run… and we have our regular workouts which consist of mile repeats, to running hills up through the cemetery.” Coach Peterson, an assistant coach on the cross country team, revealed how her athletes practice and how they plan on pushing themselves to place high in meets. When asked what practice includes, she said, “… [practice is] pretty grueling. They do mile repeats, and we will do hills at the cemetery.” Coach Peterson was also asked how they mold these athletes into being their best selves, and she answered, “Yeah, we are very hard on them. We are trying to make it to state, so we are gonna go harder and harder [every day].” The Warrior’s cross-country team will run again on September 25th, 2024. The Social Circle Redskins will host again in the Redskin XC Invitational. Come out and support your Warriors! The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
