On March 27th, Mrs. Smith’s senior class took a promising step in the workplace safety field. Antonio Perez Jeronimo, Alexis Nelson, and Trenton Taylor are just a few of the twelfth-grade students who received the OSHA certification.

What is an OSHA Certification?
The OSHA 10-hour training for high school students is based on safety practices within the workplace. Vector Solutions explains, “Instruct students on critical OSHA-regulated safety and health topics with online OSHA-authorized programs for construction and general industry. Students receive a lifetime OSHA certification card upon completion.”

Twelfth grader, Antonio Perez Jeronimo shares how the information and assignments were distributed. “I completed the assignments [Mrs. Smith] had posted,” he says. Not only do these students gain valuable knowledge, but they also can add it to their resume. Twelfth grader, Alexis Nelson shares how the program helped her learn safety procedures. She explains, “We did an online course, and we had to watch a bunch of videos.”

Information Learned by Students
Nelson shares how learning about safety procedures in the workplace will help her within her job and in the future. “Just be safe with equipment to keep the workplace safe and my coworkers safe. We used the computer, watched videos, and played little games. Then, in the end, I had to take a test on each one,” she states. Nelson also explains that one course taught her how to run equipment properly.

Twelfth grader, Trenton Taylor lists the topics that OSHA 10 discussed that stood out to him.
He says, “I learned about standard workplace safety and health hazards.”

OSHA Uses in the Future
Nelson plans on putting the OSHA certification on her resume, so she will be able to receive more job opportunities. “[Mrs. Smith] told us about [the OSHA program], and she said it could help us in the future,” she says. Jeronimo states he will use the certification for future job opportunities.
