Walnut Grove students show their spirit and dress up for the 2026 HOCO Spirit Week. Spirit Week at Walnut Grove allows students to fulfill their excitement leading up to Homecoming night.
by Corynne Cox, Audrey Ford, and Quinn Fleming
Monday (Celebrity Day)
Veronica Evelyn Nzekwe is a sophomore here at Walnut Grove High School! For Celebrity Day, Veronica fully dressed up. “I’m dressed up as Steve Harvey from Family Feud!” She wore a full suit and a bald cap, and she topped it off with a drawn-on mustache. “My favorite spirit day is going to be Soccer Mom vs. Soccer Dad…” Veronica is very excited for Soccer Mom vs. Soccer Dad because she is wearing a “…fat stomach thing I found on Amazon; I also got a blonde wig from Goodwill.” She loves to dress up every day and show her spirit, but her least favorite spirit day is Wild West. “Western day is cute, but it’s not that cool. I don't want to see yee-haw and boots; I want to see beards and toes out.” Veronica is prepared to have a great time at the pep rally on Friday. She plans to perform well with the color guard! She says, “Color guard is going to eat this down...”
Tuesday (Wild West)
Walnut Grove freshman Xavier Trask dressed up as a cowboy for Wild West Spirit Day. He styled up with a red shirt, bootcut jeans, and crocodile boots, and he completed the look with a cowboy hat. He wishes Walnut Grove could add Anything But a Backpack Day to our spirit week: “…Anything But a Backpack Day, because there would be a lot of options to choose from. I’d bring a cooler.” Similarly, Xavier views Color War Day as bland: “We could do more.” He is most excited for Movie Genre Day because he has a ton of options to choose from. Xavier is also ready for the pep rally this Friday: "I feel great. I’m excited, and I’m ready to be loud and active.”
Thursday (Movie Genre)
Coach Moon, a teacher at Walnut Grove, dressed up as Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas for Movie Genre Day. He wore a onesie costume, and his family was also a part of it: “I chose Jack Skellington because my daughter Skylar, in Wee Warriors, wanted me to be Jack Skellington this year. She wanted to be Sally, my wife is going to be the Boogeyman, and then my son, who is one, is going to be Zero, the dog.” Coach Moon’s favorite spirit day this week was Celebrity Day, where he dressed up as Post Malone. He had the grill, the face tats—basically everything. His least favorite theme was today. He says, “This may hurt my daughter’s feelings, but probably today. I feel like today was the little lazy one, you know, but I did it for her. This is, you know, Jack Skellington. I could have done something a lot more creative. I really was probably going to be the Joker if I got to choose. I have a really good Joker outfit, so probably today.” If there was anything Mr. Moon could add to this week’s spirit day themes, it would be dressing up as your favorite sports person, no matter what sport it is. Coach Moon is excited for the pep rally on Friday; spirits will be very high. WGHS students can't wait to finish off their spirit week with Homecoming night! Dressing up is always a fun thing to do, and it gives everyone a chance to show off their outfits to their peers! The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
