Walnut Grove Varsity Soccer Clinch Playoffs

On March 28, both boys and girls varsity soccer teams clinched playoff spots with wins over Flowery Branch.

Girls Clinch Region And Fight for 1 Seed
The Girls Varsity team has gone 9-5 as of 4/2/25, and gone 5-0 in region play.

Right now, the girls are second in region and will play North Oconee for the first place spot on 4/15. Whoever wins that game will get the number one seed in the region tournament.

Going undefeated in region play so far has been tough. The girls have fought to big wins over Madison County (5-0), Eastside (7-1), Cedar Shoals (5-1), East Forsyth (2-0), and finally clinched a playoff berth with a 4-0 win over Flowery Branch.

Lulu Smoot, a freshman, spoke about how the season has been going so far and about her expectations for playoffs. “The season has been going really good so far, and we hope to come out as region champs and make it through the second and third round.” 

Hannah Booth, a junior said, “I think the season is going really good.” She also said for playoffs that they are expecting, “A challenge, but something we can overcome.”

The girls have had an awesome season and now are preparing for playoffs.

Boys Clinch vs Flowery Branch
The Walnut Grove Boys Varsity soccer team went 10-4 and 4-1 in region play (as of 4/1/25). They are ranked #66 in the state of Georgia and have been dominant in their region so far, with wins over Madison County (3-1), Cedar Shoals (6-1), East Forsyth (2-1 in Two overtimes!!), and 5-1 against Flowery Branch to clinch the playoffs. 

So far the season has been going well for the boys, winning ten games as of 4/1/25 with more to come. Devrahj Singh, a junior, talked about the season so far. “I think the season is going good so far, definitely better than last season, but we still have a long way to go. As you know, we qualified for state, so we have a good decent amount of time to get ready [for state playoffs].” 

In a tough region, the boys managed to win 4 games, playing their best with a tough win in two overtimes against East Forsyth. But other than that game, it has been easy wins so far.
