February Recap
The Warriors went 7-1 in February, with the only loss being a non-region foe against the 7-1 Newton Rams (as of the morning of March 3rd, 2025.) Otherwise, the team has been very dominant. The team outscored their opponents 77-17 in the month of February. Sam Martell is leading the hitting parade, slashing a .526 average, a .630 OBP, a .684 slugging percentage to total a 1.134 OPS, 11 RBIs, a home run, and ten hits. Martell also leads the team in strikeouts (25) and is tied as the leader in ERA, with Branson Blalock (P, 3B, RF) and Cade Trinkle (2B, SS) (MaxPreps, MaxPreps) Coach Brian Fiddler, better known as “Coach Fidd,” said, “The month of February, I feel like we did pretty good. [We] played a couple of teams that are a tougher competition, and a couple of other teams that we scheduled that we felt confident that we should’ve won. So overall, being 8-2 to start off pre-region play I feel like is going well.” He continued, “I would say right now pitching is a really good strength for this team, but also they have really good team chemistry. They have a good camaraderie with each other [and] they know how to pick each other up. One thing I like about them is that we don’t give up when we're down. I feel like we always have an opportunity to be in a game.” Following the loss at Newton High School, the Warriors went on a six game winning streak, with massive wins over Alcovy High School, Newton High School, and Chestatee.
After the Newton loss, Coach Bryce Shupe stated, “I don’t know if we really changed anything, I think it was just kind of a reality check for us. That ‘hey you know we could be beat.’ So, you know, just putting pedal to the metal everyday in practice, making sure we're focused all the time and doing things right all the time, being consistent.” ![]()
Coach Allen Reaches 100 Career Wins
On Saturday, February 22nd, 2025, Coach Carlton “Carl” Allen won his 100th career game as the Warriors head coach. The win was a 15-0 win against the Alcovy Tigers in seven innings. It was the first game of a doubleheader, which they won later that day, with a score 17-4. Coach Allen stated, “It was cool [to get the 100th win], but really at the end of the day, that just means I’ve been doing it for a few years and had some really good players along the way. It was cool though. It was a fun night.” Coach Allen has been coaching for the Warriors since the 2018-2019 season. He has made it to the state playoffs three times in his six-year tenure manning the wheel at Walnut Grove. The team made state during the 2018-2019, 2020-2021, and 2023-2024 seasons (MaxPreps). The Warriors have been smashing it out of the park this February. The VIRIDIAN Staff and the people of Walnut Grove wish them all the best for the rest of the season. The Warriors take on the Brookwood Broncos. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m. Come out and support your Warriors! The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
