by Brody Rankin
Walnut Grove High School was awarded the Literature and Math EOC Award in recognition of the outstanding scores of the last EOC. This is the 2nd award in a row we’ve received for EOCs, specifically Math and Literature. Mr. Allen, WGHS’s principal, is ecstatic about receiving this award and appreciates every administrator, teacher, and student who contributed to the success of winning this award and acknowledges such hard work and commitment to academic excellence. The faculty and staff were also appreciated for their tireless efforts in preparing students for these challenging exams.
Winning the Literacy leader award itself is very rare and astonishing for schools to have achieved. Mr. Allen expressed, “Winning the Literacy leader award in high school is very unusual; it is the hardest award to win in all of the awards the state gives out.” Mr. Allen continued to say that when given the EOC award, the announcer made sure that everyone attending knew that it’s very rare for schools to receive the Literacy leader award. Overall Mr. Allen said, “I’m proud of both, I would say there is a little more pride for me in the Literacy aspect, almost everything in life revolves around literacy.” Assistant principal Dr. Brantley, head of the Literature department, contributed substantially to the success of achieving many literature-based awards. She noted other details involving the importance of the award, “From last year’s ELA EOC scores to the year before, we went up 5.5%.” showing the spectacular growth of the ELA aspect of the EOC scores. Juniors and senior scores contributed to this award, which is what makes it rare to obtain. Dr. Brantley adds, “This award that we received does let us know that our students and our teachers are really working towards improving their vocabulary, or even changing our practices on how we offer professional learning for teachers.” The progress and growth shown by the students and staff helped WGHS receive the Literacy leader award. Leading the mathematics department is Mrs. De La Rosa, assistant principal and head of mathematics department, who also contributed to the success of achieving the EOC award. Mrs. De La Rosa started with, “I also see the math department, and one of the awards worth mentioning is the Math leader award, which is based on growth.” Winning the Math leader award is superb for WGH because it reveals the growth of students in the Mathematics department. Although this includes freshmen through senior’s scores, it’s still quite an accomplishment. Mrs. De La Rosa expresses, “Our math teachers have been implementing different methods, this award is all because of what they do. Even though we're extremely happy and accept them, it’s all because of them.” She shows much appreciation to the Math teachers at WGHS, who helped a significant amount to receive the Math leader award and Mathematics aspect of the EOC award. Walnut Grove High School looks forward to another year of dedication and hard work. With a strong warrior foundation, the community is confident in its ability to inspire students and faculty to reach even greater heights in the future. The administration shows an abundance of appreciation to the students and staff at WGHS for all of the awards our school has received. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
