As the WGHS flag football season is about to commence in the fall, athletes talk about preparation, goals, and hopes.

Ansley Gordon (freshman) tried out for the flag football team. She is excited for the opening of the season and shares that it has been good so far. “The opening of the season is going really well so far. I think I’ve learned a bunch of stuff and grown from last year.” At tryouts, the team has been focusing a lot on agility drills to be a high-performing team. Ansley says, “During tryouts, I focus on things like agility drills and just being able to improve our work.” Considering that players must constantly change directions, agility drills are a super important thing to practice. Ansley talks about her hopes for the team to show cooperation and work together to become stronger. She also mentions her personal goals for the season: “My personal goals are just to keep getting better and better every day.” Ansley shares her desire to be able to elevate and grow along with her skill.

Teegan Chastain (sophomore) shares her thoughts and feelings on the opening of the season. Teegan says, “We haven't had our first game yet, but our practices are looking good. We have some good players this year.” She explains that even though the season hasn't started yet, she and the team have built their preparation and have had the ability to see what everyone is capable of during this time. Teegan mentions that she hopes she and her team make a long run in the playoffs. She also talks about her personal goals for the season. “Score three varsity touchdowns,” Teegan explains; her goals are to be on varsity and gain personal growth. During games, staying in coordination can be challenging due to everything going on around the players. Teegan mentions, “Our biggest challenge is going to be that we have a lot of young players that aren’t experienced yet, so they’re just going to have to figure that out through the season.” Although sometimes it can be hard to teach inexperienced players, they help build and teach leadership skills to the upperclassmen.

Carly Mull (junior) shares her opinion on the flag football season approaching: “I'm excited. I can't wait for us to play. I'm a little nervous, but I think we'll get through it as a team because we're all really excited to get into our first games next week.” Although she is uneasy about the season starting, she knows she and her team will be able to attain success. Her goal for her team is to accomplish a higher rank. Carly mentions, “Last year JV went undefeated, so I'm hoping we can keep up the momentum... I just hope we make it farther and actually make it to Mercedes-Benz...”

Madison Myers (senior) shares how she feels about her last season in flag football. She’s going into this season with a positive outlook and goals for her team: “To make it all the way to the playoffs and go as far as we can in the playoffs and maybe win.” During tryouts, they have been diligently working on getting better this season; she explains, “We're focusing on flag pulling and catching the ball and just like conditioning.” Madison believes that these areas they have been working on during practice are going to heavily improve her performance during games. As she begins her senior year, she shared her big personal goals for this season: “To do as best as I can and get a bunch of touchdowns and run the ball and make it a good last senior season.”

With the new 2026-2027 season about to start, the girls are ready to zone in and earn wins for WGHS.
