Avatar: Fire and Ash
Released on December 19, 2025, Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third installment of James Cameron’s critically acclaimed Avatar franchise, of which Brylee Sanders (12) is a self-proclaimed superfan. “I absolutely loved [the movie],” she stated. “The entire movie, I was engaged, and I doubt my eyes ever left the screen.” She believes that the film served as a “good, satisfying ending to Jake’s story.” The film isn’t without its flaws. “I felt despite the fact that it was supposed to be narrated by Lo’ak, it focused a lot more on Spider and his story,” Brylee claims. “I also hated how they introduced the new villain, Va’rang, who was so cool, but [I] felt like she completely got nerfed to some degree, and was reduced to Quaritch’s ‘girl.’” Against the previous films in the series, Brylee believes that Fire and Ash stands out “because it’s the first time we see the native people (Na’vi) fighting amongst themselves. It shows a different perspective regarding their belief in Eywa and that there is good and evil on Pandara without human interference.” To anyone interested in seeing the newest Avatar film, Brylee leaves you with this message: “Watch it! It’s so good, and I cried through most of it. Make sure you watch the previous ones beforehand, and I recommend 3D!”
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
One of the most anticipated movies of December 2025 was Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, but one student had mixed feelings about the film. Jack Jennings (10), a die-hard superfan of the franchise since the first game released in 2014, claimed that the movie didn't meet his expectations for what a FNAF movie should be. He claimed it “wasn’t good. It was fun to watch as a FNAF fan, although [he didn’t] think it [was] a good film. [He thinks] that the people working on the movie either don't understand or don't care about the source material, and it makes for not only an underwhelming film, but a bad FNAF movie.” Despite this, he did have some ideas as to what could have improved his opinion of the film. “I think the movie could’ve been a lot better if it captured the same feeling as the first few games… I think that they prioritized comedy much more than actual horror and storytelling.” Jack did enjoy certain aspects of the movie despite having an overall negative view on the film. “I loved the animatronics made by Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop, I think that they were really good…”
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants
As The Spongebob Movie: Search for Squarepants grows more popular around the world, fans are excited to give their opinions about it. For Miles Brown (11), it was more than just a movie; it was a trip back to his childhood. "I grew up on Spongebob,” he told us, noting that the movie had a whimsical nature that helped in giving it a feeling of childhood nostalgia. The plot follows Spongebob's journey to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs, going on a chaotic quest with the Flying Dutchman to gain the heroic title of Swashbuckler. Miles told us that it left him feeling “really good” and that he didn’t expect to like the movie as much as he did. Miles shared his feelings about the ending and that he felt there were no changes needed. “Everything happened exactly as it should.” It’s clear that the movie was a big hit, and it deserves a watch.
Marty Supreme
Marty Supreme, released on Christmas Day, takes audiences back to the 1950s. The film follows Marty Mauser, a hustling New York shoe salesman, whose one dream was to always become a professional table tennis player. “The movie was a 10/10, best movie ever!” Gabriella Charles (10) claims. The film is based on the life story of table tennis pro Marty Reisman, portrayed by Timothee Chalamet, joined by other generational talents such as Tyler the Creator and Odessa A’zion. Gabriella appreciated the acting work within the movie, “I think the actors were great. My favorite actor was [Marty’s] girlfriend (portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow).” With such a riveting and inspiring life story, Gabriella interprets the film’s message as “Never give up on your dreams, despite anything.” As 2025 enters the rearview mirror, movie fans all look forward to what the upcoming year has to offer.
