As the release of Don Toliver’s new album, “Octane,” spreads throughout communities, students at WGHS voiced their own opinions about the album that dropped on January 30. With the drop being late into January, this album gives us new tunes to jam to and a different vibe for February.
The release of the album felt well-timed and perfect for the month of love. One fan here at WGHS, Tahirah Oliver (12), said it was “the best early Valentine's gift.” She noted that Kali Uchis—Don Toliver's partner—added a romantic vibe to the album. “I think they are a cute couple.” She explained how she excitedly tuned in to the album almost as soon as it dropped, expressing how she couldn’t get enough of the music and is going to be listening to the album often while patiently waiting for the next. It's clear she is a strong fan of his work. While the romantic themes drew in fans like Tahirah, one student here was interested by the execution of the songs in the album. Elija Flores (12) found the album to be relaxing. He expressed that he would love to see Don Toliver do a collaboration with Daniel Caesar next, stating that the recent collabs on the new album were “utter buns.” He added how he had been listening to Don Toliver since his 7th-grade year after discovering the artist from a random playlist. He stated that he would not change anything about the album and that his favorite song was “OPPOSITE,” noting that the darker tone made it stand out from the rest. Adding to that, Matthew Trent (12th) offered that he enjoyed the vocals more than anything. He highlighted that a lot of songs felt dreamy, and his favorite one was “Body.” Matthew spoke about how he felt the voice and the vibe carried the album and made it so much more enjoyable. He noted that he’d only just begun listening to Don Toliver, having been recommended the new album by a friend of his. He explained how after hearing it, he was instantly hooked and would definitely be listening to new music of Toliver’s. Conversations about the album shifted from romantic tones to deeper thoughts of vibes and song execution. Whether you are a returning listener or a new enjoyer, Don Toliver's music is loved by many. Toliver keeps the fans wanting more and loving the new tunes. The Blog Tags Widget will appear here on the published site.
